Match.com blows ass. I remember way back when they would just go around and buy up all the free online personals sites and then just have them link to the match.com database. No attempt to compete on price or features. And the "double blind" email system is just a thinly veiled move to force you to communicate within their network, and therefore, charge you for it...not to protect anyone.

Its gotten better now, but back when I was looking online personals were just another huge sausage fest to go with every other sausage fest you show up at looking for women.

That said, I wouldn't put it past them to do something like this. But it doesn't sound very cost effective. Fake profiles I could see though, its pretty well known plenty of other services do that.

I've belonged to Match.com & Yahoo Personals, and had quite a few dates from both.

Going on one tonight:D

I don't get it, hiring an "escort"(for lack of a better term) to go out with this guy just to keep up the apperance of a working system would be ungodly expensive for the company, surely many times in excess of a membership fee. Why on earth would they pay for fake dates like this?

They dont actually go on the date, they just have a hot woman with a profile on there, who magically never matches with anyone. Possibly?

You guys should see adultfriendfinder.com... Just from their banner ads (on every dirtbag website) you can tell they're one fat hoax. The banner ads show a bunch of hot women living in your area.. then it says at the bottom "the pictures are not always people in your area" or something to that effect.

I've met several real people on AFF.

LOL

What's so funny?

It's just another advertising expense. I doubt it costs them much. They pay people a couple bucks to lead a guy on via email or phone calls, maybe as far as paying them $50 for two hours of their time to have some guy buy them dinner. Meanwhile, this guy is getting all spun up telling everybody about the hot girl he met through Match/Yahoo/wherever. There seems to be something of a subculture that amkes extra cash on stuff like this - I talked to somebody once who claimed they made an extra hundred or so a month posting fake reviews to various sites. There are people who contract to do phone sex out of their homes. It's not that much of a stretch to see it happening on dating sites, though I am a bit suprised they would go as far as meeting the guy. Seems it would be to much liability for them.

So you have no actual siblings? Just a family of in-laws? That would suck.

You are 1 of the .045% of matches that led to marriage on Match.com

Congrats

I met my wife on match.com as well.

By the way the .045% seems to be true, i read it on a study out of the so many millions users match.com has about 1500 reported marriages

The figure might be slightly higher - I never reported my marriage to Match.

I dated quite a few on Match - probably 5 or 6, with one of the relationships (before my wife) being sorta serious... but this was between 6 and 9 years ago (met my wife in '99). I got a free account for being one of the first few thousand people to sign up. Only deleted it after I started dating my wife.
