hey guys

do you have experience with any of the CD repair businesses below? i want to know that they will not steal my CDs and are a legit business (these CDs are not cheap to acquire).

Disc Repair Service

Disc Repair Services

Rubber Disc

We Repair CDs

i don't want to try those cheaper repair methods and since i onlyl have 2 discs, i don't want to buy a $100+ machine to resurface my CDs. they are regular audio CDs.

i tried hitting up all the local places that repair CDs and they all said No (local PC repair businesses, Game Stop, CD Warehouse, etc.)

thx in advance!

I thought Gamestop offered this service? I know Family Video does disc repair for scratched up disc. I would say check locally first. OR buy a repair kit for home use. They are cheap.

thanks guys.

i called up two Gamestops and both said that i would give them my CD, get credit for it, and they would give me another one (i would have to probably pay a little bit since it's new)... but this is only for games. my CD is an audio CD.

the damage is on the shiny side, not the side with the label.

in fact what i'm trying to do is rip MP3s from them so that i can put them on my iphone and listen to them. i can actually play them on a CD/DVD player (it actually plays), but for some reason i can't rip the MP3s. the other CDs that came with the set which aren't scratched, i can rip really easy. this leads me to believe that the scratches are preventing the ripping process. and before you suggest, i've already tried all the obvious rippers from Windows Media Player to Exact Audio Copy.

that's why i want them resurfaced by a machine and i'm trying to see if those online places are legit.

Sorry, but sending the CD out, paying to get it repaired, and having it sent back seems like a lot more trouble and expense than just... buying a new CD, no?

Bittorrent

Edit:
Alternately, if you can find the song on Youtube, download the video, extract the audio, then put it on your phone. The audio quality is good enough for phone use.

There's a chain called CD Exchange in my area that has that service. I tried it on a game DVD. It had really bad circular scratches. It looked great when they polished it, except for one deeper scratch that didn't come out. It was still fvcked. I ended up buying another game for gf.

Sending it out would seem to expensive.

ok, i'll be a little more clear... the CDs are a set of Pimsleur language lessons. it would be very difficult to just buy one or two CDs out of the set as retailers don't sell it that way and i don't know of anyone who owns the set privately that would be willing to just sell the one or two CDs.

i can see why Xanis might think this is a hassle but i don't have a whole lot of other choices... like i said, none of the local places offers the resurfacing service - yes, i've actually called up stores and businesses and they all said no.

i guess i could go around and look at bittorrents and see if someone has it up... thanks for that tip lxskllr (btw, is that suppose to be Lexus Killer, or something?).

stargazr, i wish there was a CD Exchange where i live. CD Warehouse said they don't do resurfacing... lame.

Did you try contacting Pimsleur and asking if they'd replace them? Most software companies will send you replacements (sometimes for a small fee) if you mail them the damaged discs.

Back in the day, HP tried to charge me $100 for a missing restore disc. I bought a clean copy of Windows XP for $80.

I took over 100 CDs that were pretty jacked up to Family Video. Told the manager I wasn't going to pay $200 or w/e to have them all done, and worked out a deal for them to do it when they had free time for $60.

It took them like 3 weeks to get through them all. All but 2 were salvageable and came back looking like new.
