Online backup

So far I've tried Backblaze and Crashplan, and both were extremely slow. I was averaging less than 500KB/sec on a 30mbit upstream connection. Their software's prediction varied from 30-90 days to upload all my data.

I would like to move away from local backups, but I need to find a vendor who can realistically host 1.5TB+ of material for a reasonable price. Does such an entity exist yet?

i used carbonite for 2 years and that was fine. nice software but upload was slow
trying bitcasa now. basic software but updates relatively often and upload maxes out my line.

got about 500gig on there so far.

carbonites been around for years, bitcasa - not sure

I'd be willing to pay $10 a month - looking for a quality consumer service, not a business solution.

I'm pretty sure the problem isn't on my ISP end, as I routinely max out my 50/30 fiber line in both directions. I'm in eastern Canada, and the Crashplan servers are in Atlanta, so I should have been doing better than 300K/sec.

Strange, I just uploaded a 5GB folder to Bitcasa using the "mirror" function. It claims to have uploaded that in about 30 minutes, but I never saw my network usage increase. Do they use some sort of data deduplication, I wonder? Or did the file just get copied locally?

I personally use a company called ZipCloud, and they've worked well for months now. Although they are fairly simple and don't have power user features, they've got what I need. And they back up to amazon data centers, so bandwidth isn't really an issue.

both. it encrypts it afaik and doesn't upload if it's already there. check the icon - should say xGB uploading. mine's got 400GB or so to go still
