Looks like 73 pounds.

I really don't know what a good buy for a receiver or separates would be in the $3000 range, but I did remember seeing Emo big dogs being offered for the same amount.

Now there's some heave stuff at 142pounds for the set 😉

73, eh? I had assumed it weighed as much as a 5805 or Z9 equivalent.

You'll be hard pressed to find a new combo at $3K, but I'd still stay away from the emotivas...but that's just me.

One of the contenders for my new amp tips the scales at a round 100 pounds...for 2 channels. yum. 😛

Wow, that is some cash to be laid out for a reciever. Onkyo makes some good stuff But... You could get a hell of a setup at outlawaudio for 3K...

I haven't really looked in detail at anything over the $1000 range. Anything specific going against the Emo sets?
What would you get for 7.1 on a $3000 budget?

Things are rarely over 150w per channel because:

150w per channel x 7 channels at 8 ohm = 1050w

That's a lot of juice for a regular sized receiver with an analog amplifier section.

The only one above 150w I can think of is the 170w Denon AVR-5805, which is huge (and MSRP: $6000).

This being said, I kind of doubt either of these receivers will hit their rated power with all 7 channels driven.

Probably the only relatively high powered receiver that will actually meet its stated specs is the Lexicon RV-8 (MSRP: $6995) at 140w per channel:

A good amp should last 20 years or more and be fairly easy to repair. The rest of the receiver is going to be substantially changing every few years for at least the next 5 or 10 years, so unless you have serious money to burn, tying them together makes no sense.

And Hot Dealwise, looks like everybody is edging towards the $3k price, the hot hot deal is maybe to catch someplace with the old price and a good price match policy.

Well if you ask me, if you can tell the sonic difference between a $5000 receiver vs a $1200 receiver I'd say you are 12 years old with fresh ears or a snob with money to pi$$ away. And yes I have spent plenty on multiple receivers over the past 25 years. Spending decent coin on speakers is the great equalizer.

Definitly NOT true if you have the speakers that will show the difference. Most speakers people buy NOT show the difference though. If you have really high end stuff: Thiel, Paradigm Reference, B&W high end stuff, M&K High end stuff, magnapan, ect. Most people who are on a typical budget and can not spend that much on high end equipment will probably never notice the difference. I have a pair of paradigm reference & onkyo thx reciever. Forgot the model number but i only paid $600 for it when it was going for $1000 at circuit city. Anyways yes i really do like this receiever but if was spending that much on a receiver i would probably go with B&K.
