onion rings, beer or buttermilk style, or breaded?

i guess one can use one of the numerous beer batter types that are meant for frying fish, but i was more curious if anyone does buttermilk style... or just a good beer batter that doesn't taste yeasty...

breaded at one of those places that sells pastrami, gyros, and chili burgers... the ones where the breading is a strange orange-brown color and extra crunchy

i don't know if the mess and effort involed in making them would justify trying to cook some up at home. Better to hop in the car, drive 5 minutes and just pay the $3. :p
