Ongoing Real Life Mini Drama - Thieving House Stalker Is Dumb!

This light discussion reminds me of a movie that I recently watched, or maybe it was a TV show. I can't remember.

Anyway. An agent was kidnapped by a prison escapee. He was driving around at 3am and found a house with a lot of lights on. He said something to the effect of, "a dark house at 3:00AM means that someone is home, a lit up house at 3:00AM means that someone wants you to think that people are home."

...I dare someone to test this theory when I'm sitting at home at 3AM doing work, or playing a video game....because some combination of dog, 1911 or shotgun will be waiting...

Does it have a garage that people can't tell when there is a car parked inside or is it obvious that nobody is there?

No garage to park a car in, but when my spouse was gone working for weeks at a time there was often not a car there, either, and I was there, with the kitchen light on, all night long, unless I was at the fire dept.

One thing the cop pointed out was interesting. He said according to FBI statistics, corner properties were more often broken into. I figured it would be just the opposite, since those properties are usually more visible with a street on 2 sides, but I guess I believe it now.

Yep.

And I have been bugged by the fact they stole the security system DVR the more that I think about it. What if they were afraid it recorded something so they had to take it?

I dont disagree with anything you said and would not shed a tear if a criminal dies. But if I were you, I would remove the text you wrote as it could one day be dredged up by a criminal defense lawyer and used against you to prove intent & pre-meditation as well as an insight to a jury as to the content of your character. Should you ever so happen to do the very things you posted about... Just a bit of casual unsolicited advice. Good luck.

Texas Penal Code §9.32

(a) A person is justified in using deadly force against another: (1) if the actor would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.31; and (2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary.

(b) The actor's belief under Subsection (a)(2) that the deadly force was immediately necessary as described by that subdivision is presumed to be reasonable if the actor: (1) knew or had reason to believe that the person against whom the deadly force was used: (A) unlawfully and with force entered, or was attempting to enter unlawfully and with force, the actor's occupied habitation, vehicle, or place of business or employment ...

Texas Penal Code §9.42 is a nice corollary.

A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property: (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary: (A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property ...

The only problem with that is that they can easily find and steal it. Everything is saved locally on an SD card.

I'm thinking they won't be checking the trees for cameras, but who knows at this point. And I have a bright light on a utility pole, so I should get good pics. But if that halogen light gets screwed with, I'll be camping out there until it gets fixed, you can bet on that.

And I might get another cheap DVR system, hide the cameras in different locations, like the trees, and get another cell phone so I can access the DVR remotely and monitor it from here. Imagine their surprise when the cops roll up while they are inside.

I'll tape a C-note to the back of my trail cam and give you geo cache coordinates. Bet you can't find it. 😉

My point being a few minutes of thought regarding camera placement makes them very difficult to find IMHO. If you strap it to a light pole then you deserve to have it stolen.
