enough food for about 30 years and soem basic medicines. If you live long enough youll get to see outer planets with your own eyes.
but you know your never coming never coming home.

would you take it?
I would. But i'd demand full internet until i got at least to saturn.

Or until your spacecraft hits an asteroid in the asteroid belt. :p

I wouldn't give up poontang and the outdoors (grass + fresh air + sun = WIN) just to see the rings of whogivesafck up close. I'm pretty sure you can do that with a high powered telescope.

I'd demand internet access as long as possible, frankly, you could probably play e-mail games all the way to saturn, and cached web pages should be good as far as the edge of the solar system.

In summary, C is slow, but not that slow, so yeah...one physical human contact, and laggy web access? So long as I had my own room? Yeah, I'd go.

Assume living quarters are that big.

But with a nuclear engine, I'd bet you could make it out of the system in a LOT less than 30 years. Hell, you could probably go and come back in half that time.

First off, add a poll, second, no I would not take it. Human interaction is more important to me than the Internet.

I think we can plot an orbit better than that.

You mean we're not just blasting those things out of a huge cannon and then watching to see if it goes where it should?

I wouldn't do it. Even nuclear or Ion propulsion wouldn't be nearly fast enough to see anything outside Pluto.

The first 4-5 years would be fun, seeing all the planets. After that, it would suck. Even at 25 miles per second, it would take over 20,000 years just to clear the Oort Cloud, which is still considered part of our solar system.

If craft velocity were to increase by 3 orders of magnitude or so, then we're talking. ;)

IIRC, nuclear propulsion could continue to accelerate like a rocket all the way out (not slowly like ion propulsion), so you could probably hit a respectable speed by pluto, but...yeah, I'd turn back at that point.

accelerate?

do you know how rediculously retarded it would be pulling major G's for years strait?

how about...oh, I don't know...one g? two gs? I mean that's not that far from what you want, and you just orient the decks of the ship perpendicular to the direction of travel. when you want to come home, and decelerate, just turn the cabin area around.

Ever hear of the voyager probes? Waaaay past jupiter. Cassini? It's orbiting saturn. Left a few years ago.

I think you've got your facts wrong. :)

Cassini got to Jupiter in just over 3 years.

Yeah... Voyager 1 made it to pluto in just under 13 years.
