One thing that really annoys me about my iPhone...

Well besides the torturously painful earbuds they ship with...is the music resume function after taking a call when using headphones sucks.

I use my iPhone while at work to listen to music and have a nice set of earbuds that don't have an integrated mic. All is fine and dandy until I take a call. I have to unplug the headphone and answer. Then as soon as I hang up the music resumes and starts blaring through the phone speakers even though the mute switch is enabled.

Is there any setting or fix for this besides getting a set of earbuds with a mic that aren't murderously uncomfortable?

Why do you unplug your headphones. I just take the call and point the bottom of the phone towards my mouth. You can hear your caller though the earphones and use the mic on the bottom of the phone to talk back.

I do agree with you. That sucks

Well, they are sound isolating headphones so I don't really know if I'm screaming at the phone or not. 😛

The iPhone headPhones have a mic for talking on the phone

Yes I'm quite aware of that. They just happen to be some of the most unpleasantly comfortable things you could cram in your ears for any extended amount if time.

All I ask for is the audio playback to respect the mute switch.

I bought a $20 set from best buy when I had my htc. Hate the apple ones. My wife loves the beats I bought her

I just got my first iPhone a couple of months ago and this was one of the first things I noticed. I really don't understand why they do not have the voice volume control separated from the media volume control and would like to see this addressed in a future iOS revision. Maybe it just makes a lot of sense to me because my previous phone (EVO) had this functionality at stock level.

I like them for what they are $25 cheap earphones. I'm spoiled by my Sennheisers and Shures too much to actually bother using them 😉

I believe the current iPhone earbuds are made by Sennheiser.

As for the OP, comfort of earbuds is obviously a completely personal thing. I have several different kinds, including Shures, Ultimate Ears TripleFis, and a couple of different models of Sennheisers, largely because I find many of them uncomfortable after prolonged listening. I actually find the stock iPhone earbuds comfortable and they sound respectable, but I am a tinkerer. Obviously this doesn't answer your question, but I will say that with ear canal earbuds, like my Shures and Ultimate Ears, Comply foam tips make a huge difference in comfort.

FootballMan,

Well, taking one of the ear buds off isn't easy as those sound isolating products fit real tight on the ear canal... it takes a while to put on and off.😉

I assume that OP currently takes out at least one bud to talk on the phone, but I will let him clarify.

Yeah, if he's pulling the plug out to answer the phone, then he's almost certainly pulling an earbud out anyways. I'd simply leave the earbuds plugged in and answer the phone call by speaking towards the mic.

I just dont answer the phone. Yeah, the ip earbuds really suck. Its alway perplexed me why people spend 100s of bucks on nice HW only to cripple the sound quality by using the 50 cent packaged earbuds. I see dozens of iphone users with the white iphone buds and I cringe everytime as I love music and could never ever listen to music with those crappy buds. cmon, you spend at least 200 bucks, spend another 20 and get sound better buds! 🙂

Anyway, OP, I also use isolation buds and they are a pain in the ass when I get a call, on the RARE occasion that I pick up the call I just scream into the phone and say "i'll call you back".

I do not care that much about sound quality. I don't listen to music on my iPhone like an audiophile (who does?/can you?).

I rather spend $20 on something else.

Go to the settings->sounds menu. Set the "Change with Buttons" option to off. Now your volume buttons control the volume of music/apps on the phone even while nothing is playing. Hold volume down and set it to zero while headphones are unplugged, this will mute speaker sounds. When you plug headphones in, the volume level is remembered separately from your previous headphone volume. When you unplug the headphones, again the volume for the speaker is remembered and will still be zero.

I have a pair of Maximo iMetals that I got off of w00t a couple years ago for $15. They are comfortable, isolate sound very well, and have a very deep bass response.

I just looked on Amazon and I can get a simlar pair with a built in mic so maybe I'll just use some Christmas money on a that and use them at work.

Still doesn't fix my original issue with the mute switch not actually muting 😛
