one spark plug chamber filled with oil

fvck, I knew I shouldn't have trusted a kid in doing this all the way for me, good he-

alright, so I hit up the spark plug changing months later, and one of the plug wires is loose, you could see the metal coils, I'm like, omg.. so I gotta change out the wires now, also.

so basically what's keeping the entire thing from igniting is the tight seal of the spark plug from top to bottom.

it's pretty damn frustrating. just switched out the other three plugs and left the oil-filled chamber for this weekend-do. should I get a new valve cover gasket too?

any help appreciated.
 
if you have a cylinder full of oil... you likely have a cracked head or block?
either way sounds expensive to repair.

hell no. he changed out the valve cover gasket for me. I paid him 20 bucks after he was done. the 20 bucks I'll regret investing in if my new o-rings don't do the trick. I'll have to remember to torque the nuts and bolts to manufacturer specs.

I think that the area above the spark plug is full of oil, but otherwise no idea what you're talking about.
 
The cylinder isn't full of oil, the spark plug well is. That can usually happen when the valve cover bolts are torqued to tight or not tight enough. The gasket could also have been installed improperly, the gasket could have been bad or the valve cover and cylinder head mating grooves weren't clean enough. I mean real friggin clean, no oil anywhere on any mating surface at all.

Take the valve cover off, remove the gaskets and clean the making surfaces with either brake fluid or alcohol. Reinstall the gasket and torque the bolts to manufacturer spec and in the proper order. Work your way from the center bolts outwards, and don't torque them to spec one at a time. Tighten them enough so they're a bit snug, but not to spec. Then tighten the bolts to spec, again starting from the center bolts and working outward.
 
I know my maintenance book says to always replace the spark plug well boots, valve cover gasket and bolt gaskets anytime you remove the cover. I just had to replace mine because I had oil in all four plug wells, it was amazing how much better the new ones looked.
 
You paid a kid twenty bucks to replace your valve cover gaskets and he did it wrong, allowing oil to run into the area around the plug. Also, the spark plug boot was damaged during this procedure.

Is that what you're trying to say?
