One simple English word question.

What's that word that has same meaning as genius and it's used for describing athletes?

I think it has ph sound in it but I got it mixed up with phantom. Grrrr... drives me nuts when this English word is sitting somewhere in my brain but won't come out.

I was gonna say "prodigy", but I suppose phenom works too... I just don't like that word as much, mostly because it's slang... short for "phenomenon".
