One reason why Microsoft blows!

I already posted this same exact post reply in the thread called Why is the XBOX so great? But I know many won't end up reading it so I decided to make a new post so most of you can read it.

Man, Microsoft really screwed me and a lot of other people a lot. Many of us that have bought a XBOX either had to go back to exchange it for another one, so send it to Microsoft with $100 to fix the lens so you are able to play the newer games.

My XBOX was manufactured on November 11, 2002 and it still has problems playing games such as NFL Fever 2003 and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. As I play Fever 2003, many time would the game freeze then continue about 10-20 seconds later, and it would keep doing that until I turn off the game. It was quite annoying and I know it is not the Disc because it's a brand new game.

Also, as I play Ghost Recon, 5 minutes into the game, it would just totally freeze and stop, and again I would have to turn off the game. I read many complains about this, and it would of made my life a lot easier if this didn't happen.

I know this didn't affect everybody, but why would Microsoft make a console knowing that the newer games they make won't work as well. Games like Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Sega GT 2002, Splinter Cell all works fine on my XBOX, but I don't know why those other two games don't.

Every system has its problems. I have had several friends who had to return their playstations or gamecubes. My PS1 stopped reading ALL disks after about six months, and I had to get a replacement.

It sucks that you got a bad system, but every company has a certain ammount of a failure rate.

Has Microsoft even admitted the Xbox blue screen yet?

I hate Microsoft. Please pirate their software.

Have you actually tried anything else? I mean, aside from installing Mandrake Linux in VMWare and trying to run UT2003 on it. Sheesh, some people's ignorance doesn't cease to amaze me.

I hate Microsoft, too. Please use something else (Linux, OpenBSD, NetBSD, MacOS X, or even BeOS if you feel like using an outdated not-well-supported OS). Just use anything other than Windows. Then they won't have an excuse when they try to implant cop chips in our computers to prevent us from running real free OSes that are better than Windows.

Hey, I was thinking about getting into Linux by installing Mandrake, but I guess I won't if you say it sucks....

obviously you guys don't understand that this is a feature! microsoft does not make bugs/errors, they are all *features*, seriously!!

odd how u have to pay them an extra $100 for a problem they knew about, makes u wonder if they made sure this problem would occur in the 1st place

No, I didn't say mandrake sucked. I said that he would think it did if he installed it in VMWare (not uncommon to do when testing other OSes, but it doesn't support accelerated OpenGL) and tried to run UT2003 (since he most likely doesn't actually use his computer for anything much other than gaming).

Mandrake is nice if you want to learn how to use Linux with a GUI. If you want to learn Linux well, and have the perseverance to stick with it for a while, try learning Debian. You can use graphical applications for web browsing and the rest, just like Mandrake, but you will also learn how to use the command line (a good skill).

You have a new revision of the XBox - if anything it should play newer games better. Mine was manufactured a year and a half ago (approx) and it plays every new game just fine.

Well not with mine buddy, I don't know what the problem is, how can it play other games fine and smoothly but not these two games? I just don't get it.

It's not like Linux is lacking in documentation; all you have to do is become familiar with the act of moving your eyes over a collection of paper pages or a computer display terminal showing the contents of the website that has been linked above. ;)

Grab an ISO of Mandrake and install it in VMWare. Just don't expect to be able to play games with it that way, because VMWare doesn't do the fastest display emulation. Once you get somewhat familiar with it, you might want to consider using Partition Magic to resize your Windows partition a bit to make a 6GB or so partition for Linux so you can play with it on a "real" computer, and experience 3D accelerated games like Tuxracer and BZFlag. :)
