Oh and it's funny how different places accomidate "pain". When I had my kidney stones and I was in the hospital overnight I honestly had like a baseline pain of what I would call a "4" out of "10" with a spike up to 7 or so and they were offering vicodin like they were tick tacks. Never took one, but I had the script filled.

So I go into the prompt care today and can barely move my hand and they ask me if it hurts and tell them that I didn't sleep at all at last night because of the pain and that I nearly cried trying to get my socks on. They ask me what my pain level is and I peg it at around a solid 8 or 9 if I move my hand the wrong way.

So they bring me an ice pack and offer a tylenol.

Doh. I could use a vicodin or something to take the edge off tonight. Lucky for me I've got some left over that they prescribed for the kidney stones.

They probably didn't want to prescribe any controlled substances since as far as they know, you could be an addict. One would think they would see the mishapen alien hand and swelling, and then reason that you were in fact not faking it just to get some pills... Captain Morgan can help you with your pain too....

Honestly, I'd get it X-rayed. Too many small bones that can be partly fractured/cracked to mess around with it.

Not that having a broken metacarpal will have them cast it or anything...more like splinting it.....but at least you'd get some real pain meds instead of the pathetic Tylenols.

Yeh, I did get Xrays. Negative to fracture. At least for now. I've had a boxers fracture of 5th metacarpal in the past and that required a cast. I've got a splint now, but I'm more worried about tendon tears that don't show up on film. We'll see if there's any improvement in a week.

it sounds like it's a soft tissue injury, probably a tfcc or bruised tendon. he said he was judo chopped playing basketball. the likelihood of a fracture or dislocation is low, unless he fell onto that hand. soft tissue injuries don't show up on x-ray. he needs an mri or diagnostic ultrasound.

it could be a subluxated triquetrum.

go to an orthopedist. if they see nothing wrong, go to a chiropractor to adjust the bone back in place. if there's no tear or strain, then the bone is just out of place and needs to be put back in place. it's really just a one-time adjustment and you're good, if that's the case. make sure the chiropractor you see knows extremity adjusting and not just any chump who thinks he knows what he's doing.

LOL! I googled that came up with this:
texasfcc.org
Texas Fellowship of Cowyboy Churches

😀

There are LOTS of those around here. They are kinda funny. Big church building and then next to it a corral and pens. Parking lots are just empty fields and they are full of F250s and horse trailers. They seem to do really well.

zin, you may have been more right than you thought.

I was gaming a bit ago, that hand runs the arrow keys, all of a sudden, my hand is wet...I look down and the blister popped itself...and it drained into my keyboard. 🙁

*waits for "Some spiders crawled out of my Keyboard!" thread.
😀

I've been in a brace for two months now and only take it off to shower and wipe my ass. Which isn't easy because my wrist is still jacked up. Got a swollen lump on the ulnar(outside) side of my wrist that hasn't gone away yet.

Saw an orthopedic hand surgeon last month and was diagnosed with a TFCC tear. If I try to do a throwing or basketball shooting motion or any compound movement of my hand it almost brings me to tears and it hurts for a couple hours.

When I saw him last month he said if it wasn't any better by next visit (Which is Friday) then we'll discuss more invasive methods treatment...aka surgery. He's not sure if an MRI is really necessary as there are many of these injuries that aren't fully diagnosed until they scope them and access the full damage. It's such a complex array of small ligaments and bone that imaging doesn't always tell the full story.

This blows.
