I'm sure his picture will look good next to all the Mafia dons who donated to charity during the great depression.

The mafia dons never threatened our democracy or the middle class - they deserve better.

They may have killed a few with bullets - instead of many from their pollution.

I'd say kickbacks to city hall and cops counts as corrupting democracy. Likewise, maybe they didn't kill as many or threaten our democracy, but I'm sure if they could have made more profit doing so they would not have hesitated. Still, I get your point. Perhaps we could post their pictures in order of who did the worst deeds.

So did the robber barons of old. Carnegie? Rockefeller? Same move. Their charitable donations/advocacy, while admirable, doesn't mean that their other activities weren't dangerous or hostile to democracy.

Don't forget John F Kennedy

When you look at the scale of what the 'robber barons' were doing in their heyday, JFK certainly didn't compare. But if you are going to play that game, none of these guys hold a candle to Ronald Reagan.

First, I meant our national democracy. The only time I recall them playing a role there, they ended up probably not changing anything, but helping the right guy, Kennedy.

Second, the point was partly tongue in cheek, of course they threatened the honesty of local and state governments - if not to the degree the Koch organizations do nationally.

The Koches are out to do things like destroy unions, harming the middle class; the mob backed unions, as a source of corrupt funds, inadvertantly helping the middle class.

You know, I think I might have just outed the reason why Reagan went after organized crime - as union busting!

Nah, Reagan went after them simply because he got a better offer from other people to do just that. If the Mafia took over Wall street tomorrow I'm sure the entire republican party would bend over, forward and backwards, to please them and then go after the very people who hired Reagan to go after them in the first place.

That donation represents .0625% of his net worth. Not as ground breaking as you think. Don't think he'll have to give up too much.

I think your medication needs some adjusting.

But I get it.

Rich left leaners that make charitable contributions are wonderful people.

Rich right leaners that make charitable contributions are no good sacks of shit.

It's true, all I really needed to know about progressives I learned in Kindergarten. Unlike them, I moved on.

I like how you're complaining about leftist caricatures of right wing people by caricaturing left wing people.

The complete lack of even the smallest amount of irony or personal awareness is pretty fantastic.
