Damned filthy capitalist. The nerve of him to donate $100 million to a cancer research center at MIT. That, on top of the $100 million already donated to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as well as the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Mr. Koch warned that government spending cuts could impede cancer research. And he urged donors to fill the gap.

“The National Institutes of Health, and the National Cancer Institute in particular, are facing serious cutbacks in their funding due to the massive deficits the federal government is incurring,” he said in his speech, in a tent outside the seven-story building. “If the cutbacks happen, it will significantly diminish the level of research that can be carried on at the Koch Institute. I earnestly ask you to do all you can to help maintain the superb research at the Koch Institute at its maximum level.”

It takes a pretty well-heeled individual to donate that kind of money. But, as we often hear, folks at that income level are just terrible people. I guess it's better to take their money and spend it on teaching Sawzall dildo classes. That's what the people are clamoring for.

While I can somewhat agree when donations are made to cancer research, but we still have to ask where that money came from and how it was earned.

I simple googled how the Koch brother acquired their wealth, and found a pile of links. To put it mildly, most of them do not cast the Koch famdamily or the Koch brother in favorable light.

I read it twice. Your insinuation is that he got all philanthropic to counter a prank phone call. My point to you and I'm thinking you didn't get it, is that there had to be years of planning and construction for something "which he gave $100 million to help build". This wasn't some last minute effort to counter a prank call that gave lefties a chubber. A prank call that was ignored by everyone with even a low level of maturity because we recognized it as little more than a sophomoric prank.

But, once again I get it. The hate runs so deep for people with money that give to conservative causes that the stops must be pulled out to belittle and berate them. What is never understood by the left is that those of us on the right just kind of chuckle to ourselves at all the "outrage" and move on. We understand it's little more than juvenile behavior and something we've learned to ignore.

You're right there was years of planning, him planning on how to hopefully stay alive longer as he did not give until AFTER he got cancer. He is not giving to cancer research because he thought it was a good thing for others. He is giving now as he admits because he has cancer.

Me and my wife have given to cancer, hiv, homeless shelters, etc... not because we are affected by it but because we think those we gave to are good causes. Something Koch and others don't get till its to late.
