One more reason not to drink and drive

A guy I used to play football with died last night in a car crash. Single car accident so no one else was involved. He had a previous DUI about 5 years ago. This happened about around 2AM. I'm guessing booze was involved.

He was supposed to getting married this weekend.

One of my best friends was supposed to be his best man in the wedding. Now he's a pall bearer at a funeral.

If you're going to drink...please keep out of a drivers seat.

Bummer. 🙁

I know the post is only 3 minutes old, but I'm surprised the "he got what he deserved" crowd isn't out yet.

The real tragedy is that he'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. A real nice, happy go lucky guy. Who was ready to start a new life with his soon to be bride. He just really liked his beer. He certainly didn't "deserve" it, but it could have easily been avoided.

Maybe the tox reports will show he was sober as can be. But history and some other stuff isn't in his favor.

Yeah, it's sad when a stupid decision ends a life. It's worse when it could have been avoided.

It's a shame when a good guy (or girl) has that kind of Achilles heel, and falls victim to it. 🙁

Wow, I would wait until you know for certain before you bash him.

Did anyone try to talk to him about his drinking problem? It's sad to see people die when their drug abuse is so easily viewable.

Yes, because everyone knows that going up and talking to someone about their drinking problem will make it go away.

You'r right, we should just not help at all. Fuck the addicted.

Intervention is an awesome show -- watch it on Hulu.

Sorry to hear about your friend, vi edit. I feel badly for his bride-to-be, her and his families as well.

You can die at any time, in any manner, because or not because of something you do/did.
Drinking and driving is basically playing Russian Roulette and leaving 5 bullets in the gun instead of the 1 you wake up with everyday.

I haven't gotten behind the wheel with a single drop of alcohol in my system in roughly 10 years. Oh, I still drink; just never when I've got to drive. I used to drive completely blasted out of my mind, in the right lane, at exactly the speed limit and stopped for every yellow light (or if I thought that maybe it was yellow-ish...) for many years and somehow escaped killing anyone else, myself or getting caught.

One day I woke up. Nothing bad happened...other than the fact that I realized that I was an irresponsible douche. :0 I was so grateful for my second chance. I didn't thank God. I thanked Chance; b/c that's got to be the only explanation for it. My number just didn't come up.

Your buddy didn't understand that he was given a second chance after getting caught the first time. He was too immature to understand that he had someone depending on him to be there (literally and figuratively) for her; his fiancee. He drove around toasted, gambled and lost.

Hopefully he can at least serve as a warning to others.

Yeh, it's possible that I could have to eat crow and it was just a freak event. But between the history, the time of day, and just simply knowing the guy it doesn't add up well.

Regardless of what caused it, it's a horrible situation. 🙁

It's not the same for everyone.

for your friend, but some people know where their tolerance is and for them, it's not an issue.

It's called providence. The unseen hand of God, the bringing together of God's sovereignty and his goodness upon your life.

So Artest, huh? Interesting move. I definitely think we lose some agility, but the points, the boards, the toughness.......I'm thinking we're getting back to the finals for sure.

I'm confused, was it confirmed he was drunk or is this you just assuming because he had one 5 years ago? Maybe I just like to see the good in people.. In either cases, condolences to you and your friend / his family.

sorry about your loss. i've got a good friend just like that. he'll give you the shirt off his back, bend over backwards to help you out, and yet he constantly puts his life at risk. he informed me a couple of weeks ago that he had totaled another car, which would be his fourth in about 10 years. i don't know how much longer his luck will run, but it catches up with everyone eventually.

Because I might die? That was already my #1 reason to not drink and drive.

Sorry about your friend though.
