Except even that doesn't explain your incorrect info. HPV is linked to cancers of the penis, oropharynx, and anus in men.

It's extremely rare...and for MOST men a total non-issue.

Even cervical cancer is rare and as long as a woman gets a yearly pap smear totally treatable.

Almost anything can be linked to causing cancer.

Actually, HSV1 and HSV2 are just viruses. They can either be present in the genitals, lips or both. Typically HSV1 takes the lip and HSV2 the junk, but they can switch... Any cold sores on your junk are basically genital herpes - whether caused by HSV1 or HSV2.

This statistic only refers to G herpes caused by HSV2. If you add it all up (G-HSV1 and HSV2) it's probably 1 in 4. GHSV1 is the quickest growing population, especially in the under 30 range, probably because oral sex is now rampant.

Be careful when you let someone go down on you ...

Anyway either HSV isn't a big deal, but society just has this giant stigma against it.

I can agree with this, I knew of two chicks that came to me for questions that ended up catching HSV1 in their genitals from older dudes that lied to them. Both were virgins at the time which is sad.

One I ended up dating and by playing it safe did not catch the virus.

HSV2 is not part of the common STD tests that most people get. You have to request it specifically. Also, something like 75% of people carrying it never have symptoms and don't know they are carrying.

The herp is like chicken pox now... Yes, it can eff you (hi-yo!) and kill you, but it's so common and seems to just come and go.

Not being a health professional, all that's out of my ass.

IIRC, condoms are far from 100% effective against HSV

I was about to google the stats, but I really don't need that in my google history. 🙂

Yeah, I wouldn't have a problem dating someone with it, as long as there's antivirals and condoms involved. The chances of getting it without any symptoms with those two things are really small - like under 5% or so.

It can't kill you but there's a huge stigma associated with it...

It's because the base of the penis is not protected nor the surrounding areas of the vagina.

Safe sex practice would be to not bury the bone.

For the last 20 years I've known that at least 1 in 5 sexually active adults have Genital Herpes and that the numbers could be higher (I've even heard 1 in 3; talking about English-speaking America of course). The fact that people keep acting surprised only reflects their prior ignorance of what should be well-known. It comes up ALL THE TIME. I'm sick of hearing it.

Cervical cancer is extremely rare in women too. Less than 1 in 10000.
