I would think consistency would be a bigger factor than just the mass of the pile.

JR High. Teachers had this break room off an old gym, they smoked up a storm in there. There was a fan mounted about 7' up to blow all the smoke out, and Kevin H. decided to toss a dog turd into it. Sure, most of the turd came out but a significant portion made it through the metal gauntlet. I have indeed seen shit hit the fan, and it was not pretty.
 
Throw a pot of hormel chili at a decent metal blade circulator like a Patton or Lakewood and you should have a nice ring of brown from ceiling to floor.
