How about we focus on Iraq until its stable. Worry about whats next after our work here and in Afghanistan is done.

What a concept; wasn't Bush the one saying during the debates that our military was spread too thin?

iran is not north of iraq you idiot

and if Bush wants to attack every country in the ME, then he should be impeached, and drag Cheney along with him, before they cause irreparable damage. I think we have our hands full now, and we need to deal with North Korea.

Because if you go due north you will be invading our ally Turkey....

If you want to go to Iran you need to head east ( make a right turn).

nice map, I see how if we continue going north past Baghdad we will wind up in Iran, but to reach Turkey we must turn right and head east...

There's no need to. After the Berlin Wall went down, it caused a domino effect in other communist Eastern European countries. Once there is a freely elected moderate Iraqi government in place and the country stabilizes out, it will probably spread to neighboring Arab countries.

actually since bagdad is kinda to the east, if we go "directly" north we will be in iran. Turkey and Iraq's border is VERY small to say the least. iran is to the north, east and a little south of iraq. its a big ass border.

How about U of L Cards instead?? :D ;)

Seriously though, with every action there comes a reaction. Best course of action might be to wait for the reactions regarding this most recent success.

The problem is Iran isn't really evil. Bush just put it in his 'Axis of Evil' because he's too busy to be concerned with current events outside America (that's why he's got Rice, Cheney and other smarter folks, right?) If he were to try and keep up with how the world has changed since daddy was president, why I'm sure his poor little head might explode. Anyways, Iran being in his 'Axis of Evil' was just another simple error on his part, kinda like using the word 'strategery' in public. Please ignore, mind the gap, etcetera etcetera...

Syria's actually improved since back in the 80s when Damascus was nothing but a maze of terrorist camps. I visited my cousins there recently, and granted they did live in an ex-pat Shell village, but I was still surprised at the relative freedom we enjoyed while sightseeing.

Who's on my list? Let's see...how bout North Korea, Yemen, parts of Sudan, Zaire (Congo?), Nigeria, perhaps a few other African countries, Myanmmar, Sri Lanka??? Too bad we'll never go to any of these places cause there's nothing in it for us. Our strategy in those African nations is hindered because of all those endangered species in the jungle...can't just drop the bombs and napalm like we used to. Oh well...

LOL, yeah, TCFEBUK cast in the role as the next "Saddam" to us Big Blue crazies.

Anyway, back on topic, a wait-and-see approach after securing Iraq might serve our best interests. But, who knows?

I agree 100%. I supported the Iraq war but truth be told it was something of a unique situation. Other countries in the ME like Syria, Iran and SA can be dealt with through other means short of military intervention. Same with NK, which should now be #1 on our list of priorities IMHO.

Can't tell if that's a slam or not. At least we'll still have the same coach next year :p

But, imo, North Korea needs to be dealt with in conjuction with China, Japan, and South Korea. And, while we're at it...get China to leave Taiwan alone as well as Tibet! Then comes Cuba.

And, while we're in the middle of all this, we need to work on separate states for Israel and Palestine. Can we put them on opposite sides of the earth?

Iran in 05'

We now have bases in the heart of the Middle East, don't have to ask nobody for nothing, and we now have a 700 mile long border with a country we've been pi$$ed @ for decades...

It'll take a few years to get our bases we'll lease from the new Gov in Iraq in shape; give us 2 years.

Trust me....

I hope you're being a bit sarcastic there, loosemoose ;)

Iran is filled with younger people who long for a democratic government. *I* wouldn't state Iran is part of the 'Axis of Evil', myself. They're not the greatest friends of the U.S. but an attack on them would be WAY uncalled for.

I can't believe nobody's said Canada yet. *insert "the tank" comment here* ;)

I personally hope we can stay around just long enough to get Iraq stable and up on its feet (I imagine that'll take awhile) and then bring our troops home. After that, I say let them invade Tahiti for a well-deserved vacation.

Well...Syria is making some dumb moves. From the BBC Latest News:

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says Syria has been ignoring a warning he gave last week about giving military assistance to Iraq and that some senior Iraqis were fleeing to Syria.

Oh, and speaking of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross worker's body has been recovered. :(

And also from BBC Latest News:

US says talks with Iraqi exiles and local leaders to be held on Saturday. More soon.

I would think they'd pretty much have to expect that though even though official policy said they must warn them. They're obviously not going to go to Iran or Turkey and Jordan wouldn't probably be the best place to hideout given the somewhat ore moderate government there. Syria had to be their best bet for places to hide out.

I don't know why people feel that North Korea is an easy target. It's not. If we have to fight NK then so be it, but don't expect an easy victory. And if they do have Nukes, it might even be suicide, because we all know that those Nukes will be trained on South Korea and even our own troops.

Plus.. I bet China would seriously object to an invasion of North Korea. Maybe to the point that they may aid North Korea in this military conflict. And I'm not talking about giving NK military supplies, I'm talking about their armed forces against ours. I have a feeling that China may be threatened to see our troops lined on their border while we shell North Korea.

There are too many negatives surrounding North Korea.

If Syria keeps it up I think they could easily be on deck for a regime change as well. Wouldnt cost us much more to take care of it while we are in place after we take care business in Iraq.
