hey

jhu .. i am sure that would be great advice if i could figure out what it meant .. 🙂

I found some good cases for overclocked machines here:

http://www.ocsystem.com/modedcase.html

what case with what combination of power supply, fans etc would be decent for a computer of my configuration. I do not want to spend over 70 dollars on my case+fans+cooling but will spend around 100 if it makes a big difference. My dvd, cd, fdd etc are all white so please suggest a combo for that. Also, do i need to put a heat sink seperately for my processor .. this part is what really baffles me .. thanks once more ..

take it easy ..

Isn't he Sri Lankan? Looks very much similar to some Sri Lankan school mates of mine. *shrug*

Akshtray: I'm a heavy gamer and Win2kPro does me proud, so i'd say spend the money you save there on a better vpu and more RAM!! oh yeah 🙂
Anand is American. 😉 I think his ancestry is Indian.

Do you know him personally? Or did you mean something else because of that 😉?

Forgot to ask ..

Does it really matter if I get the retail version of all these things or just the OEM version ??

Thanks a ton ..

Get the OEM version. Retail means it includes a HSF and a longer warranty (3 years). OEM comes bare w/ a shorter warranty (generally 30days). The warranty issue is null as you will be overclocking (voids warranty) and the likelyhood of getting a chip that will fail (over time) for reasons other than user error are extremely unlikely.

99+% of the time the chip will fail because of user error, i.e. improperly or not mounting HS, using too much conductive grease, fan failure, overvolting, etc. (neither of which are covered in warranty), or it will fail immediately - in which case you still have 30days to return. Rarely will a proc. which is installed and cooled properly work initially and fail later on.

Plus one can tell all the details of an OEM CPU immediately as they are printed on the proc. Many online stores, like excaliberpc.com (link to AMD CPU page), even sell CPU's with specific codes so you know exactly what you are getting. Retail CPU's come boxed and are a crapshoot as to what you will get.

For low priced, quality cases, I've always recommended Antec. They come with quality PSU and very well made, and are generally very fairly priced. The drawback is that they are not flashy. Don't get me wrong, they look good, they're just don't have that brushed aluminum, giant sidewindow look to them.

Antec Cases (from Newegg)

Edit: I just noticed that they do offer some flashier aluminum cases for ~$80.

I know that Anand is an American. I'm not Irish even though I have partly-Irish ancestry, for example... I'm American.
