Is it just me, or is it amazing that worldwide, one cellphone shipped for every 6 people on the planet.

I can't think of another piece of tech that has come even close to being as influential and widespread.

Nah - how many people have access to computers? How many Africans do you see living in shacks that have computers?

I think computers are basically part of the same process. The disruptive tech is silicon, specifically the integrated circuit. Computers were just the first most obvious use of the tech. The cellphone is a far more pervasive use.

I wondered that too. E-waste is something I feel very ambivalent about, as a geek and a green in almost equal measure. At least ROHS is going to help a bit. And it's nice to see it being implemented in product lines across the board.
