I will be getting 3 Asus VG248QE.

I was wanting to know what would work better 1 GTX 780 TI or 2 GTX 770's.
one GTX 780 TI cost less than 2 GTX 770's but they do show a big improvement in FPS from what I saw.

I am getting to the point that this will more than likely be my last build for many years.
So I don't mind spending a little more that I usually do.

I may add water cooling later but doubt it.

This will be in either a Define R-4 or a Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 Case haven't decided what one has the best air flow for cooling yet.

I would try a R-290 or a r-290x but I not sure if they support 120 or 140hz monitors

If you were to get the 770s, make sure you get the 4GB versions for that resolution. They are a little more expensive, but would definitely be an improvement at 5760x1080.

The R9 290 and 290X will probably work well if you can find the cards. I had my 2 EVGA GTX670 FTWs in SLI running in rig 2 below and they ran 3 1920 x 1080 monitors in surround very well. At 5760 x 1080 you want as much Vram as you can to run the "eye candy" in the newer games.

Yea if you are not in a rush wait for the 290's to get back in stock and also updated coolers.

Yeah I wouldn't suggest the reference 290(X) cooler, but it all depends on what you consider too noisy or too hot. That is why I asked when you wanted to buy. If you can wait for the aftermarket coolers to hit the market, the 290(X) would be a consideration. However, they could get eaten up by miners as soon as they are released.

Since you say you want it done by Christmas, the 770 4GB or 780Ti might be your only options...

I would look at what games you plan to play. Some games do not like multi gpu configs.

If i was in your position i would get the Ti and call it day. If you can wait, i say wait for a 290X with a aftermarket cooler and hopefully a a bit of OC from the company that makes it.

I have a pair of 4GB GTX 770s and they're great cards and give me great performance for every game I play at my monitor's resolution, which is 1440p.

But, if I was going to be playing at resolutions above 1600p, I would get cards that have a 384 bit or greater memory bus.

The 256 bit bus of the GTX 770 is good for up to 1600p, but above that, it starts to show it's limitations. So if it were me, I'd get either a pair of GTX 780s or 780 Ti or 290x.

That a great point....I dont think we have really seen the benefit of the 4GB cards on the 256bit bus.

I don't think your gonna get a 290 or 290x for a long time. When they do become available expect a fast sell out and a considerable bump in prices.

Get 2 780s and call it a day. I don't think the extra money for the 780ti is worth it. I have no doubt two 780s will meet your expectations. No waiting on availability , no crappy amd cooler, no fighting prices for Bitcoin driven pricing.

What games do you play?

Might be worth it to get one 780 Ti now and add another later as you need the power

If he's getting a three way monitor setup, then he's going to have to go multigpu off the bat to get good performance.

I'm with p_monks33. Two GTX 780s looks like the best bargain right now in terms of price, performance and availability.

Unless you're playing at very high resolutions (like ultra HD and greater) with lots of AA, 4GB will not be fully utilized even with 384 or 512 bit bus.

The reason why I recommended a 384 or 512 bit card was because you're way more likely to run into performance issues at UHD resolutions due to lack of memory bandwidth, than you are VRAM capacity.

Much of the time, the extra VRAM that cards have isn't even being directly used for rendering purposes, but for caching textures and other assets.
