Ok, the time has come for me to actually get a real monitor for my desktop pc.... Staring at my sony 35" TV from across the room has done its toll on my eyes....

Which would you reccomend?

A single 19" LCD or two 17" LCD's?

Also, which brands do you like? The most i want to spend is around $700, but Im not made out of money, so the cheaper the better.

I wish the dell would go on sale again already, but if not I am prolly leaning towards samsung because of employee accomidations.

Two 17" will be awesome. It's always nice to have your email prog. on one LCD and a DVD or UT2K4 running on the other. 😉

a single 19" usually isn't going to offer any more desktop real estate than a single 17," so go with the dual 17s

2 17" all the way man.

Or if you prefer, buy one 19" now and another 19" later 🙂 I have two Samsung 191T+'s and love them!

Definitely 2 17"s beside each other... I want something like that at work someday! Gonna get it at home much sooner than that though! muahahah

more is better! well, no, i dont know, get which ever you want, but, why would you need two?

Once you try dual, you'll never go back.

I'd take two 17" LCDs over any 19". I just prefer the extra space. For LCDs I like Dells so whatever the rebadge would get my recommendation.

I'm in the same situation...won't be buying them/it for another month or two, but the decision is NOT easy...I wish I had some friends that had a system running each situation...much easier to decide after actually USING it.

ah well.

If you can get two quality 17's for under 700 then i would go with that. Otherwise i would say go with the 19inch.

Is this a work only computer or will you be gaming/watching movies etc on it?

IIRC most Dell's are rebadged Samsung LCD's.

However do Samsung LCD's also offer 3 year warranties like Dell does?

SyncMaster 173s-Black 173s-Black 17" $348.68 each

Its going to be a combo of both. Im starting law school in a month and havent had a monitor on this system in a year.

Currently i play games 20% of the time, but that will drop significantly soon. I will want to play games from time to time though.

Have you checked the quality of that monitor ie color quality, ghosting, reponse times. 17s that run under 400 usually aren't the best.

get the 19" AG Neovo. nicest lcd i've seen so far. u can check certain models out at compusa now, but i know there are even better ones online

i have a setup with one 19 and another with a pair of 17's and i would say regular use... go witht he 19. you say you are tired of eye strain from your tv, well the 19 will allow things to be bigger while at the same resolution.

if run multitask A LOT, then go with the two 17's. but when i say a lot... I MEAN A LOT!

Well, i used to run a triple monitor rig about 2 years ago, one 19" CRT and two 17" CRT's..... All in all i found it more useful than my single 19" CRT alone, but then again, my desk was caving in from the weight.... 🙂

Unfortunately, 19" and 17" LCDs are the same crappy, nonstandard 1280x1024. 20" ones are 1600x1200 though.

in addition to the fact that any desktop LCD < 20" is low resolution, the fact that they picked a 5:4 resolution for a 4:3 screen is my second biggest source of dislike.
