lol 😉 all you need are good snowtires in the winter for RWD, then you can handle better than any FWD, also you can control the car better as well.

**already purchaed my Blizzaks for this upcoming winter 😉 **
Return them and get Nokian Hakka1's. The Nokians will last longer and still perform better than the Blizzaks. The biggest problem with Blizzaks is that while they are good, after a while when their tread is worn, they lose 50% of their snow traction. This is because they have a much softer thread in the beginning, and then as it wears, it changes to a different compound.

They have two different types of Blizzaks, the ones I have are the one that's made with Hard compound. I forgot which model it was.

I paid 350 for my4x 17" blizzaks brand new 🙂

Why return them when they retail for like 140-150/each new.

Well I dunno about pricing in the States. I do know that Nokians cost around $110CDN/per tire (15inch) over here. And they are the ultimate snow tire.

Btw, why'd you go with 17-inch tires? I'd have put 15-inches on for the winter with a set of 15inch steelies so your sweet Lexus rims won't get spoiled.

Agreed. While, as long as it's a Cooper S (I belive that's right) that is.

Besides, this is all a moot discussion anyway.

AWD< RWD< FWD

I think you mean >...

I've never driven an AWD car.

You know, I thought I had that wrong 😛

My Stock rims are 17", I was gonna get 16" steel rims and get 16" snow tires, but I got better deal on the 17" snow tires.

Im gonna most likely purchase the L-tuned Rims 18" later down the road.

FWD is teh suck. I'll take RWD over anything, anytime. Cant beat it, not on dry pavement, not on wet pavement, not on ice and not in dirt.
RWD > AWD > FWD

mmm....L-tuned!! Nice! Post pics when you do get them!!

I hope you got narrower tires! I had 185's 15-inchers on the 240. You lose traction in the dry but you more than make up for it in the snow (when it really matters). But then I suppose you have some sort of traction & stability control on your IS300. All I had was a VLSD.

I do have traction control, but I dont use it cuz when the wheels slip it cuts power to it. I like to have the power to control the vehicle.
I might use it when it's pouring out in the rain, but when it snows or daily dry or light rain driving, I turn it off. It's much more fun that way

I think my tires are 245's ? Snow tires should be the same, it might be 240's.
I dont drive much in the snow anyhow, plus I usually don't go over 15mph. Well that was when I hit last winter with Stock Potenza's ( Summer )
made it out alive with not much trouble.

I got stuck once, but that's another story for another time. Plus Lexus reimbursed me for all the towing fee etc, since they couldn't send someone out to pull me out.
If I had to somehow get a hotel room, they would have paid for that as well 😉

Ah. Just don't be like that dumb-ass IS300 owner who a) put that tire shining stuff on his TREADS! then b) turned off traction control and stability control and c) went out driving in heavy rain which resulted in d) totalling his car as he fishtailed right onto a curb/pole by the intersection.

I've driven it long enough to know my limits and the car as well.

Right now I really want some STB's to stiffen up the car and do some suspension work. So many things I want to upgrade but don't feel like shelling out the money when it handles great stock. Plus I don't want to fiddle with the warranty either.

It's definitely gonna stay with me prolly for a long time, so I can always mod it later down the road.

Pretty much the only thing better about FWD is traction in slick conditions. Yeah, it saves a bit of weight with less drivetrain components, but not enough to matter that much.

RWD is better in nearly any other aspect that you can think of.

For some reason, the auto manufacturers decided to ram FWD down everyone's throats and the public bought it.

That's a big reason that I only drive a truck or SUV now.

I knowm, with all things being equal, on the race track a RWD car is faster than a FWD but I have no interest in racing.

so u mean FWD has better braking than RWD???

I don't quite understand that either. What does the other maniac coming into your lane has to do with RWD ?
He was prolly driving a FWD ( Torque Steer ) and wandered into your lane.

I think he meant that if he had slammed his brakes on a tight curve doing 80mph (why are you doing 80mph on a tight curve anyway??) he would have oversteered. Altho in a FWD, he would have understeered right into the other lane!

Never EVER slam on your brakes during a turn!! The front wheels can either change direction or brake, but they can't do both at the same time (effectively anyway).

definitely great fun 😀
I'd like to try a RWD car sometime (for slideways fun), I've only ever driven a FWD van, FWD geo prizm and my AWD WRX.

nothing like launching in 4 wheel drive or taking a sharp turn at 60 and not drifting but hitting 1g acceleration
cause your not skidding.

The way I have my car setup right now, it feels more like a RWD car than a FWD.. I need to get a better front sway bar. x-x

RWD and AWD are both fun in the snow, while FWD is much more boring. I've driven RWD in snow for the last 6yrs ever since I had my licence, once you know what you can do and know the car's limits, RWD can be very fun rides 🙂

You realize AWD's generally dont perform that well based on skidpad performance data. Usually around .85 or so?

If you hit the brakes of a RWD car in a middle of a high speed curve the rear end can break loose. So if I were driving a RWD car when the maniac wandered into my lane, the rear end could have come around on me.

I had no idea you guys actually read my posts?!!

Skidpad numbers are more a function of overall grip than most anything else really. My AWD car has been quoted at up to 0.97g from magazines, but it also comes with super sticky tires stock - that people have noted as being near R-compound in tread pattern.

The biggest benefit IMO with an AWD car is how you can get on the throttle much earlier coming out of a corner than in a RWD/FWD car. You can build tremendous corner exit speed and pass more powerful cars in the upcoming straight because of it, depending on how long the straight is before the next turn.

that's what you get for going around a 15 mph turn at 40 mph 🙂

No more front wheel drive for me!

What's good about RWD is you can have fun even if your car is weak, like a 240sx or 80s Supra 🙂. I take corners too fast, which my 240 can do anyway, and accelerate out of them fast too, without worrying about plowing into oncoming traffic.

Just because u cant drive, doesnt mean u can't do those things with fwd
