And now I know why :D

A friend of mine just gotta beater '89 240SX with the stock engine inside (KA24DE for you Nissan nuts).
He drives that thing like a crazy mofo.

He'll take corners at extremely high speeds, slam on the brakes, and as he hits the apex, he'll gun it and fishtail out of the turn.
He thinks he's drifting, LOL.
Drifting or not, he's killing his tires but it sure is a ton of fun.
His engine and suspension are going too, but he's planning to drop in the almighty SR20DET, and other suspension mods.

Thinking about going to Drift Out Wednesdays at Englishtown with my FWD Sentra  ;)
Been driving FWD my whole life, because it snows/rains a lot in the Northeast here.

You don't know what you are missing. And you can feel oversteer without drifting. It feels very good... if you're into that kind of visceral thing. Also, RWD impresses the ladies.

rear wheel drive rocks :)
I did a bit of fish tailing for fun in berkeley in my old 86 supra :)

that's what you get for going around a 15 mph turn at 40 mph :)

No more front wheel drive for me!

What's good about RWD is you can have fun even if your car is weak, like a 240sx or 80s Supra :). I take corners too fast, which my 240 can do anyway, and accelerate out of them fast too, without worrying about plowing into oncoming traffic.

An 89 240 has a KA24E(SOHC).

The 91+ 240s(s13 & s14) came with the KA24DE(DOHC).

And yes, rwd is superior to FWD.

Today in rained and I went to pick up some Sam Gyup Sal at Han Areum.
I was hitting corners at like 45mph it was insanely fun. I think the guy that was walking on street where I fishtailed gave me a weird look.

I think I kinda scared my younger brother too when I went to pick him up.

Agreed. While, as long as it's a Cooper S (I belive that's right) that is.

Besides, this is all a moot discussion anyway.

Great for launch, slower at top end.

I am not sure I want to go back to RWD. The other day I was doing 80 in a tight curve and the maniac in the other lane wandered into mine. I had to hit my brakes hard to avoid hitting him. I could have been in trouble if I were driving a RWD car.

I knowm, with all things being equal, on the race track a RWD car is faster than a FWD but I have no interest in racing.

Once you go AWD you never go back to anything else.

<---likes sliding AWD in 4 wheel drifts.

In Maine it's the same way.

If you get a RWD car, you can't ever go back to a FWD, 'cause you'll most likely kill yourself on the icy roads in the winter...

Been driving FWD my whole life, because it snows/rains a lot in the Northeast here.

Withouht reading hte thread, i will say that once you go RWD, FWD just doens't feel the same. Note, I haven't driven a Integra Type-R or a MINI, but DAMN...driving that 240SX was awesome. Forget how fast you actually turn for a minute, its the feeling you get when you downshift before the apex, get the right line, feel the front wheels load thru the steering, then you take the apex, with the tires screeching, modulating the degree of oversteer with the gas pedal (called throttle steering). As soon as you clear the apex, you give more gas and car tucks back into line and you prepare yourself for the next turn.

This is what driving is about.

Edit: I prefer RWD (with snow tires of course) in winter. Its much easier to turn simply because you can control the turn thru the gas pedal. Can't do that in FWD cars. And I have experienced the difference. In the Maxima, if you take a turn in 1/2-foot of snow, the car will understeer. Same turn in the 240SX and if the car starts to understeer, I can just give it some gas and it will rotate and take the turn. Note, both cars have the same tires (Nokian Hakka1's) and turn was taken at normal speeds. Under normal driving, I find RWD much more controlable. Although I will say that going up steep hills is scary, especially when its on a narrow road with cars all around you.

However, if you do accelerate hard in the snow, FWD is much better because it won't fishtail (althou the front end is more suspectible to torque steer in the snow). However its pretty stupid to accelerate hard in the snow.

lol ;) all you need are good snowtires in the winter for RWD, then you can handle better than any FWD, also you can control the car better as well.

**already purchaed my Blizzaks for this upcoming winter ;) **
