I have a p4 2.0a attempting to overclock to 2.66. I was repeatedly able to make the computer boot all the way to windows with the bios fsb settings to 133 (100 default). But once windows finishes booting, the chip reverts back to 2.0 gig. The maximum I can overclock is 120 FSB w/o having this to happen. Any solutions?

I can overclock the FSB within windows using the fuzzy logic program MSI gave me, but it's not pernament...I want it to always stay @ 2.66 gighz...don't want to overclock the FSB within windows everytime i boot up.

specs:
500Watt powermax ps
p4 2.0a
512 pc2700 orginal samsung ram
msi 845G max

the only way you can make it permanent is set it up on the BIOS....

if your BIOS supports FSB adjusment. just set it there...
i never your use any software to o/c my CPU ( xcept the BIOS )

Of course i set it up on bios...it boots fine...

it boots @ 2.70

windows shows 1.99 (using wcpuid)...

just wondering, does a low 12V line have to do w/ any of this?

My MSI 845 Ultra-ARU board does the SAME EXACT THING.

I can boot into XP at 150Mhz just fine, or so I thought. Whenever XP loads, it knocks my FSB down to 100Mhz. I've checked it with WCPUID and I just don't get it.

What I did to get around it was I got a program called, CPUFSB. It allows me to modify the FSB of the board right in XP and it also allows me to keep a high ratio for my memory.

I'm about to get a new mobo and keep away from MSI for a while. It's a great, stable motherboard and everything, but it's not built for overclockers at all.

when you come out of bios after setting the fsb to 133fsb does it show on black screen 2.66ghz??? May try to manually set it if there are jumpers....

It loads straight into winxp?? No restarts?? cause a failure to load at a given speed in some mobos will have it elaunch with default (100fsb) set back....

Fuzzy logic program is crap...and I pretty much detest most windows based ocing programs....

List all voltages...vcore, etc.

Well, I think the problem might be MSI. I have recently owned 3 of them and they were all quirky in one way or another.
