Once and for all what's all this excitment about 939?

I understand waiting for the PCI/agp locked 250's but why is everyone waiting for this new socket?

Basically, it just makes the A64 better. 1000 HT, unregistered Dual Channel memory controller, but thats about it.

Because it is the socket AMD is going to go forward with for the foreseeable future. Plus, with the NF3-250GB Ultra you can get a DCDDR/A64 system for far cheaper than you can now.

With 939 CPUs having two memory controllers, we can have four DDR400 modules without buying an A64 FX

Hell, just having a locked pci & agp bus is enough for me to get excited, since I overclock everything I can get my hands on. But, I'd be willing to bet that taking away half of the most expensive part of any processor (the cache) isn't going to make them any cheaper at all. Oh well, it doesn't make much difference performance-wise unless you're encoding media, and maybe AMD can start actually making money now.

R3XX is the current line of radeon cards

R4XX which i will agree with Jeff on is the new line of radeons coming out... R420 is the newest and last agp8x card by ati

and then the R423 will be their pci express card

so everyone waiting to buy a 9800xt/pro... just wait a few more weeks and these things (the pro at least) will be sub $200 IMHO
