The fact is that Islamic (and Indian) scholars achieved an incredible amount in mathematics and science in the late 1st and early 2nd millennium. Texas schools would be doing their students a disservice to ignore this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_mathematics

link to examples?

now remember there are 1 billion + Muslims in the world and only 20% of them are Arabic so i would really like to know what the "incredible achievements of Islamic scholars" consist of.

I love Texans and hope they evolve. They are my fellow countrymen.

Thank you, Moonbeam. Every once in awhile you cut to the heart of the matter in an incisive way. I'm with you, just a little more skeptical.

The left here has little tolerance for the South, especially if you are white, conservative and christian. Much less tolerance if you are a poor, uneducated redneck.

A friend of mine spent a year in USA, including a fair bit of time in Texas. We were all eager to hear his hilarious tales of Taxasfail back home (this was towards the end of the Bush years) but all he could tell us was that Texas was the best part of the USA. That's just one data point, but he loved the place.

Texas Board of Ed Working Log:
1. Must erase all historical references of people we don't like ... take that your democrats, you elitists ... you liberals (excellent 300 pages gone from history!)
... chop chop chop ...
245. Must erase more enemies from historical references ... take that you Muslims and Koran lovers ... (damn it why are there so many of them, take that ... and that and that ...
... chop chop chop ...
1356. Finally done! No more enemies of Texas in our histories ... now the good book is just what it should be like, a clean 10 pages on the birth and death of Ronald Reagan. Easy to print ... and I bet the student will love history course in Texas now ... the discretely abridged version. hehe ... PS. give self raise for excellent work.

Are you Pakistani? Would you mind helping me settle an argument?

Now before you agree perhaps you should know a bit about me, i'm English, originally from Brixton but when i'm home i'm home in Sheffield.

Would you be insulted if i called you a beloved patriot? See, where i grew up this was the common language for anyone from Pakistan, me, being a Jew was called jow, no one was ever insulted by the that, and no one in Sheffield has been either so i am trying to figure out if people in the US are?

If you're not Pakistani, sorry about wasting your time.

I am a pakistani.
It sort of is offensive, mostly because i've been told and have seen it used negatively. I think it depends on the situation. If your a random dude on the street yelling beloved patriot, hell yes its offensive. If your a friends of mine, not really.

Texas should be embarrassed

after that UCLA game. :awe:

lol, we are. very much

that's just silly. there is a lot of rich history in the Muslim world of "ancient times". how the fuck are they going to explain the history of math without referencing Islam?

Yes there is . 300 spartans are part of that history . Nothing has changed except of the word usage . Its the weak that cry biget, or racism . When in fact its human nature.

But in reality its doesn't matter . Human natural = The destruction of the planet and all its life . A fact that cann't be denied.

Human natural has a destiny with time and that time is now . To bad the criminals are in control and we gave them the power to exercise authority over us . Time to remove that authority.

Muslim history isn't ancient . When was Mohammed born. When was the Quran finnally completed as it exist today. How did Mohammed spread its hate faith. Threw war and the threat of death if you don't convert. But this was old news as the HRCC had used these tactics a 1500 years earlier

You may except a prophet that kills and spreads war and conversion threw terror as exceptable . But the God I believe in . Does his own killing . If man has to do it for god . He/She is NO god but a lie to exsert power over the ignorant . In this all religions have excelled

Hebrews and Islamic people all share the same Father differant mothers. I am pretty sure that the hebrew knew alot about math . or the Pyramids ... wouldn't exist in egypt or the americas if islam was the father of math . So explain how all this math existed befor mohammed a man who couldn't read or write. So we have the Native americans who knew math as there ancient sites show same as egypt. Islam is basicly claiming to be the craddle of mankind. Which is debunked along time ago by Nimrod. Just because a people spread out threw out the world from one area of the world doesn't = Muslim . or islam. Its like al gore claiming he invented the internet. Sounds cool but lacks all historical fact if you view it strictly from written history.

Almost all historians believe that semerains( many spellings) Are the birth place of all math and much much more. For islam to claim they are True semerains is a lie. It like white people claiming to be native americans . Enoch 7 generations from Adam(MAN) was the father of written word. Which requires a high degree of understanding Math.

Remember when the very same school board banned a kid's book because the author shared the same name as a man who wrote a book about Marxism?

For that matter, even if they were competent enough to target the kind of book they thought they were, why would they want to ban critiques of capitalism? Since when are dissenting viewpoints a bad thing in education?

From what I've heard, this is justified. They said that textbooks would refer to Muslim conquests as "migrations" while at the same time vilifying the Crusades.

It's a non binding resolution to treat all world religions fairly.

Education is important it awakens the inner self . But teaching Ideas or false history that cann't be proven is a step backwards not forward. Deal with TRUE facts that can be proven is the only true way. Teaching ideas is bad as we all have ideas. Facts only please . Something that can be proved only . Anything else degrades growth of human spirit.

I can't find the text of the resolution... Why is it so hard to find actual documents in the internet era?

Hmm... it looks like a ridiculous document for a school board to be passing as a regulation. It contains blatantly political and inflammatory language like this attack on an ethnic group:

WHEREAS more such discriminatory treatment of religion may occur as Middle
Easterners buy into the U.S. public school textbook oligopoly
, as they are now doing (see
documentation in Appendix III); and

Maybe Texans are just better at tolerating fools in positions of authority...
