This actress was a controversial choice when chosen and still remains a subject of debate. Who is this now soon to be gilf material actress?

Didn't know about the controversy, but recognized her from the multitude of 80's shows she was on. Then did a reverse image lookup to figure out who the hell it was. Good choice.

Based on the background with the Paramount logo and "Star", I would narrow her identity down to Star Trek. I never watched TOS and I don't think she's anyone I know form the main cast of TNG or any of the latter series so I'll leave the rest of the deductions to the other posters here.

Ok, the answer is...Robin Curtis who played Saavik in Star Trek: The Search for Spock and a bit part in Star Trek: The Voyage Home

She was controversial in that many people wanted Kirstie Alley to return and many people wanted the character gone after Wrath of Khan. In Khan, Saavik cried over the death of Spock and people felt that was not what Vulcans do.

It is not known why Kirstie was not in Search for Spock which was a fairly big part for the still relatively unknown actress. Whether she did not want to get typecast like Nimoy or whether the producers didn't want or have the money to give her a big raise is not known.

Robin Curtis parlayed her role of Saavik to a number of appearances in scifi shows like Babylon 5 and Star Trek the next generation. However she almost always appeared in alien makeup and her real face never became widely known.

She did get to bang Spock in the Search for Spock and some Star Trek novels portrayed her as having Spocks son.
