OnboardUSB & Adaptec USB2connect 5100 power output

Does anyone know how much power the onbord motherboard USB1.1 and the Adaptec USB2connect 5100 port output?

When I plug in my external hard drive, it doesn't seem to have enough power to power the drive. But with the external hub, it's enough without external power supply needed.

On the USB 1.1 there is 500 mA per port and I would guess that it's the same for USB 2.0.
