Onboard sound not working

Hey there. I recently picked up an MSI K7T266 Pro2-A (MS-6380 v 1.0) before this board I had the same one just a newer revision, but alas I sold my system. Anyway, i can't get the onboard sound or the usb to work. Both are Auto-detected by windowsxp and the drivers are installed. There are no conflicts listed in device manager, but neither of them work. The sound does give an occasional sound. MP3 playback consists of about a second of play then it stops. I have all the latest MSI drivers, and the newest BIOS for this mobo. Any idea of what could be wrong?
