onboard sound for K8N Neo2 Plat?

Just wondering if its any good at all. I saw some people on the MSI forums using it and was surprised that an enthusist would use it. Maybe it's better than I thought?

Speaking from experience, onboard realtek codecs are garbage compared to a true sound card. It will most likely be adequate, but nothing special

Thats what I thought. I remember Realtek being complete junk...thats why I was surprised there were people using it 😛

Most people are content with anything that will play the traditional Windows beeps and blips. And for that, onboard is perfect.

However, an AV-710/Audigy 2 ZS will massacre the realtek, and they're not even considered Hi-Fi soundcards!

Hrm, i didn't think it was that bad. My POS neo2 wouldn't detect my audigy so I used the onboard for a week till the board completely died. All my games sounded just as good....but then again I just have the x-530 speakers. Mabey there's a bigger difference on a quality set of speakers

Hey, the above critiques of the Neo2's sound quality read fairly extreme. Is it actually that bad? And, by the way, does it support digital optical out? I'm trying to decide whether to buy a separate sound card for my pending Neo4 purchase. (drool, drool)

Can anyone offer some more detail on the differences, either feature-wise or subjective listening? Thanks!

Pick up an Audigy 2 from the For Sales forums for like $50 🙂 You're much better off and it's really not that expensive.
