Onboard Audio Only Plays PC Speaker Sounds

I have a Biostar M7VKB mobo with onboard sound. It has worked fine until recently. I reinstalled XP home, and now the onboard soundcard only plays the PC Speaker sounds. I thought that it might be a BIOS setting, so I played around with all of the settings and even reset the BIOS without any luck. For some reason Windows does not recognize the onboard sound. Any ideas?

did you reinstall the drivers when you reinstalled xp?

I tried to install the drivers, but I got an error that says, "device not present." So, it appears as though my system is not recgonizing the onboard sound.
