On the road, do you stop for funeral prosessions coming the opposite way?

I stop if I can.

I was always taught that you stop until at least the family car has passed. That's usually one of the first 2 or 3 vehicles, right?

The only thing I do differently around a funerral prosession is I treat the whole prosession as one giant car.

Good way of looking at it. I usually pull over if I meet a procession coming the opposite way.

The worst was at my Grandpa's funeral in February. Some dumb ass pickup truck figured he'd try passing the procession on a two lane highway. :Q he ended up stuck right in front of the car my parent's were in and behind the Limo carrying my Grandma, right behind the hearse. 🙁

When I went to my grandfathers funeral last year it was in Georgia. They closed off all the exits onto the hwy we were taking while the funeral procession drove by, and then reopened them right afterwards. It was also police escorted. He wasn't even anyone 'important', just another funeral. I've only ever encountered this in the South. I do know that where i grew up in PA you werent supposed to intercept a funeral procession, but we never stopped on the road if its the other direction.

If I were following you, I'd punch my car horn so hard, the steering wheel would fall off. MOVE!

Man, I hate it when people slow down or stop when stuff is happening in the opposite direction on a local road or highway. WTF? Mind your own fricking business and move on! Are you in the accident? No. Is it your funeral? No. So get moving. /rant

I always thought you were a prick, but this confirms it.

I hope when you die no one even fvcking comes to the funeral.

As for the law enforcment escorts, this is normal. The family usually pays one or more off duty officers to bring their LE vehicle and escort the funeral procession. You usually run all stop signs, red lights, etc. The deputy will block on ramps and intersections for the procession to pass. This isn't just a thing in the south, it happens all over the place.

I hate the douchebags who get in line with them just so they don't have to wait for the whole procession to pass. Talk about fvcking rude and inconsiderate.

I've seen many in Michigan and to stop if its coming the opposite direction is rediculous. You stop if you are going to intersect the procession but not if its coming from the other direction, WTF.

I stop, gotta respect the dead or they come back and haunt you.

There is one place here where they get on the interstate and drive about 30MPH, traffic really backs up behind them. But noone passes because they fear the dead coming back and haunting them. 😀

On the highway, the law of crossing through the path of a funeral procession is null. I will prevent it if possible, but I'm not going to slow to 30MPH behind a line half a mile long to make my exit.

Unless motorcycle that escort them have blue and red lights i will not stop and having yellow ambro lights means they are not cops. I have passed them going the same more then once with fake cops screaming at me and i just flashed and keep going. I knew there is nothing they can do about it as they were not cops. So unless they are cops i am not stopping.

unless he is on cops motorcycle he is not a cop during the time.

Fvck no. I'd honk at your dumbass also.

Do you sit during the pledge of allegiance? Do you leave your hat on too?

It's just a sign of respect. I guess some people just don't get it. Oh well...if it makes me a dumbass, then so.be.it

No, and I rarely wear hats.

Still, I can't remember the last time I saw a funeral procession. I'm just an impatient bastard. 🙂

I thought it was illegal to interrupt a procession?

If you're going the opposite way you're not interrupting the procession.

Just three days ago I encountered a funeral procession at a four way stop. They were on my left taking a right, and I was taking a left past them down the same road they were coming from. I slowed down but I kept going. I don't see that as disrespectful at all. Either they go by you while you're stopped or they go by you while you're moving. It's all the same. I would never pass or interfere with a procession though.
