On phone with a scam?

Wants me to install the file aa_v3.exe. It shows in Google as a trojan, is this legit? It's a company called CyberWizard.

EDIT: Yeah, bad idea.Just says from there, no credentials.

They were trying to tell me that if they wanted access to my computer that they already had it when I clicked EventViewer. They were saying that each event was someone trying to hack and my computer would shut down to where I could not reinstall. A lotta scare tactics, after it became obvious it was BS I got some data to report in case they try it to you. EDIT: Ammyy LLC, I can post that. It all Googles as scams.

There wasn't anything on the site, least no scripts, but it's best to be safe.

A good article on what happened (also, see bellow), what a weird experience. I kept asking for more credentials than a company name. Well, not interesting enough, but another resource for Google against them.

I did a Google Search before anything I did to make sure, even the web site. From what i read I caught it but still checking. Feel dirty

I feel sorry for any scammer that gets my mother. Trying to get her to do anything computerish over a phone call is enough to drive you to suicide :^D

Well they shoulda figured out when I said I have EventViewer on my desktop and that I researched all the errors that I wasn't doing it.

Again, an interesting experience. Hopefully I kept them on for a while so long distance cost something.

My mother is protected in two ways, the 1st is she'd have to call me for anything even remotely technical. The second she don't have the internet.

Me, for a sec. I figured I could reinstall but followed him as far as I could. I used a few phrases like "What kind of idiot" to him as well. They actually called back. I told this one that I was going to post a warning about their company, and if they really were a subcontractor of Microsoft that they should be concerned I was just adding to a lot of negative data about their company and that Microsoft will need to cancel their contract.

They didn't call back. Dang, I forgot to ask them to remove me from their list.

I even asked as a clarification, so you're telling me I clicked Event Viewer and that somehow gave you access to my PC she said yes.

I submitted a letter to the web service provider, formstack.com. Prolly won't do anything.

The link on the page is to a Trojan that allows remote access of the PC named aa_v3.exe. It's also used as part of a phone scam as seen here:

Note the name of the indicted company and the one on the button on your web server is the same. Please terminate this illegal activity.

Ammyy Admin is a legit company, the scammers are using that legit companies software to create the scam. My friends mom got hit by it not too long ago, she realized what was going on so rather than deal with them who then had access to her machine, she pulled the plug on the computer..

It doesn't make sense to us, but to the gullible AND tech ignorant/computer illiterate, they may very well believe Microsoft would know if you had problems with your computer running Windows.
It can be hard to imagine, but plenty of people just don't get the inner-workings of the computer, and could easily believe Microsoft would like to help them. And if they successfully get you to look at all the scary-looking errors in Event Viewer, well... that just lends credence. OMG, if they know about these errors, they MUST work for Microsoft.
At that point, people start shutting down further brain effort and don't think about what they are led to do from there. It must be legit - look at all these errors!

Anyone who falls for this who happens to own a Mac, they need to just jump off a cliff - the gene pool would thank them.

Follow along with the scam, acting all confused, then at the end say "oh, Windows. I'm running Linux." Either that or say you work for the company they claim to be from and say you weren't aware we were doing a call campaign.

And I just realized I posted in a necro thread. Sigh.
