On my way to work today I saw some kids who had just gotten off the bus. Two of the kids were throwing rocks at a kid in front of them as they walked home. Made me sick. I almost stopped my car to throw rocks at the two brats, but figured it's not worth trying to teach immature a$$holes the difference between right and wrong. Basically I posted this here hoping we have some young readers who might act like this sometimes. It's not cool, grow up.

I would have felt the urge to pummel them myself, but it's not worth getting arrested to defend someones kid.

I hit a kid who was 15ish who was pushing a 8-9 yearold around. He was pinning him to the wall and slamming his head against the wall. What for? this little kid had accidentally backed into the big kid. Such things piss me off. BTW I was 17 at the time.

There was a time when any adult could discipline any kid, or feed him, or use him to carry groceries, and nobody - not even the kid - thought a thing of it.

Warrenton,
congrats... you've just shown an extremely easily influenced youngster that it's not cool to rough someone up by roughing someone up. :disgust:

Actually, wouldn't it have been better to kick the snot out of him when the younger aren't around?

Why do people settle things in manners that might be okay but end up being not because they're setting a negative example for the younger ones??

I'm not trying to piss you off, Warrenton; I'm not trying to get under your skin. Please don't take it that way.

Sounds like that is what their parents think. That is why those kids are the way they are, is because of mentalities like that. One tire screeching stop, and a quick comment, and I guarantee that little ordeal would have stopped. The problem is that no one has the time for kids like this, or they would not act this way. In my dinky neighborhood, 99% of the people here would have jumped out of the car and whacked those kids with a belt until they could not sit for a week. :) And then called their mothers :D

<Bones yells at those kids>

"You do not throw rocks at people!"

<throws rocks at the two kids. Smack! Smack!>

"Do you hear!"

Bones grabs his sign and goes home. :p

Should have parked your car for a moment on emergency lights and got out to stop the kids.

But the parents would yell at you because it is not your job to teach the kids a lesson. And anyway, the parent probably does not have enough sense to teach them anyway about respect and among other things.

So in reality, it is not possible to stop these things until they are grown up when everyone can tell them what to do but it is so hard to change how they are taught or their behavior anyway.

So I conclude, it sucks.

I can't stand those immature fvcks. I'm kinda short for my age, but I don't take any sh1t from anyone. When I was a freshman one day a junior walked by and pretended to sneeze on me and instead spit all over my face. I caught his foot as he passed and he hit the ground hard. I picked him up and well beat the crap outta him till his friends broke it up and laughed at him. A freshman beating up a junior :). Unfortunately I kinda got the jump on him and I really not strong enough to take most of the jocks and the druggies. Too bad, cause otherwise I'd be able to back up all my talk ;)

One time when I was walking home from school (I was 17 at the time) there was a group of kids harrassing some kid ahead of them...when they caught up with him they started pushing him around, etc....so anyway, when I caught up with them...I went and stood in front of the kid who was getting it and told them if they can beat the sh!t out of me, they can do whatever they want with this kid. Needless to say the little buggers took off :D (they were only 12 I'd guess, and I'm kind of a big guy)...I don't think they'll pull that sh!t again.

Normally I wouldn't bother, but this one was pretty bad. the kid was to the point of crying and the whole situation just sucked for the kid.

One word :

Bullies.

They exist all over the world, from stone age till now.

It's part of the human civilization.

Kids won't get tough if they're not picked on.
I'd rather not have a bunch of wussy kids all over the place who cry at the drop of a hat.
Not many parents toughen up their kids either, so its up to the bullies I guess.
TV gives kids a false sense of strength, I should know... I had a group of 5 12 year olds thinking they could take me out because they'd evidently been watching DragonBall Z (yelling Kamehameha and whatnot)... it was rather humerous until they started punching at me. I just had to pick one of them up off the ground and then they kinda got the hint that they weren't as tough as they thought they were :p Oh yes, this was last year when I was 18 :)

I take the stance that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I'm not backing up bullies in their methods at all, I'm just saying that they're the only thing making kids toughen up these days. I'd still be a weakling, socially and physically if it wasn't for the constant drive to survive against the bullies and tough kids in elementary school and junior high.

Those parents would be "liberal idiots"

Thank you for standing up for the scorned. You are a real man in my book!

kids do things like that to each other all the time - it prepares them for the big bad world.

I bet there's not one person on Anandtech who had neither teased or picked on some other kid while at school, or had been picked on or teased while at school.

Because I am female, it's easier for me to step into situations like that. I can see where guys are on shakier ground. I am pretty quick to handle these situations when I see them, and I'll take it to the school/authorities if I have to. I have learned how to handle these situations with cool, calm authority. I can be pretty formidable when necessary. The trick is to stay calm, rational, and focused (even if your pulse is racing).

I was picked on mercilessly and sexually harrassed as a kid at school and on the bus and I always wondered where the h*ll the responsible adults were. I'm like the Crow avenging the wrongdoers now. Scary lady... :D

Phalkon, ROFLMAO! I don't know what I'd do if a bunch of 12 year olds came at me yelling "Kame Hame HAAAA!" Try to use Piccolo's Makkankosappo attack? Maybe whip my arms in front of me across my body and yell "Sonic BOOOM!" and wait for the energy beams to come shooting out? Or spit at them while saying "Squirtle, squirt"?

You did the right thing. If you had stepped in and did so much as give one of the bullies a minor scratch and you're a$$ would be headed to court so fast. Fscked up kids like that most likely have fscked up parents who don't care or don't realize that they're children are demented, and they'd probably tell you to 'leave children alone you pedophile I'm they're parents'.

Sorry, ranting about the state of some morons in the world.
