As most people who post here are likely to be aware, I believe that the cause of discrimination is rooted in self hate. People who have been put down and psychologically traumatized by being put down and made fun of or physically punished for actions deemed to be those of evil in action, suffer painful wounds that are impossible to live with, if kept in constant awareness. This is where the ego and Stockholm Syndrome kick in. By conformity to the notion that if one will follow certain rules and believe in certain things one can join the good guys team we convert and become exponents of that theme. We exchange what was natural for us to feel, for the safety of the self satisfaction of being a, properly oriented, wonderfully worthy, ego. Now we get to do the putting down. We become the enforcers of the right set of rules. We become the moral police who will themselves never face charges.
But here I would like to examine something more. What happens psychologically in the world when there is discrimination against this or that endlessly appearing 'OTHER', the people who stink, who are worthless, who are evil? What happens within a group that has been labeled 'other' by a majority?
The first thing that happens, in my opinion, is that they are made to feel inferior and constantly reminded of it. They do not get the free ride of joining the majority because somehow they are not accepted because of some difference they either can't hide, or are fated to be in by birth, or strongly held belief they don't wish to abandon, regardless of the cost.
And since the hurt of being discriminated against is usually suffered at a young age by any prominent out group living within a larger and hostile in group, that hurt can't be rationally dealt with or sloughed off. It's hard to make adults suffer from being called pafromalitic igors but if it is used to describe, to name, children as hideous if their noses turn blue in the cold, you will soon find kids avoiding going out in snowy weather. There is no real inferiority implied in a blue nose unless one harbors painful memories of being identified as worthless for having one. All bigotry is just one or another form of idiocy.
So the damage is done. The condition of having been put down for imbecilic reasons festers and if one carries that kind of hurt and pain, what is the result. Is it not a sensitivity to certain forms of criticism that other people do not feel. You hear blue nose mentioned and you suddenly feel like they are talking about you. You join a blue nose pride parade. You attack others for the absurdity of having some other color nose than blue. You seek a country where only blue nose people are allowed to live. You demand reparations. You form a defense league to go after people who are blue nose bigots. You demand equality. You run the risk of focusing so much of your victimization over your blue nose you may cause others to wish you would stick your blue nose up your ass. We create what we fear. And the more intense the hatred of blue nose people there is and the longer through time it exists the reaction to it increases perpetuates causing the bigotry to persist.
Do you think there's any truth to this? Can you find examples where you see this happening in the world?
