On-board Sound VS Creative Audigy 4 PRO

On-board motherboard sound or Audigy 4 pro 7.1..I'm looking for quality and I hear that PCI sound cards use less CPU usage than using an on-board sound.

Audigy 4 is the rolls royce of sound cards.

And Yes creative is known for thier audio compression technologies that least impact cpu performance.

Now why doenst anyone ink a deal with creative for onboard audio? I know there are a few but I certainly believe there is more demand for creative now that Nvidia doesnt do audio any more.

Take a peek at the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, MSI K8N Neo4 SLI, MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum.

They've all got onboard SoundBlaster Live! chips for sound. 🙂

Thanks I am about to build a new rig next month.

Audigy4 will SMOKE any onboard sound. What do you plan on doing with the A4 anyhow?

I'm a hardcore gamer, currently my computer is using some cheap soundmax digital audio (on board) and i have a 5.1 setup and I want more performance, quality and features for gaming. 😀

5.1 setup = what?

Unless we're talking like Klipsch Promedias or something, getting an A4 is going to be total overkill. Even with promedias it's probably overkill... I mean the quality of the speakers is going to be holding you back more than the soundcard likely.
If you can get an A2 for $50, I don't see the point of spending 6 times that on a soundcard unless you have some incredible sound system.

My speakers are great, 5 piece Altec Lansing. I just need a soundcard with more features, quality and one that will "filter" surround sound better. As my on-board doesn't know what to put on what speaker even though the profile is set to 5.1.

They're not this set, are they?

If they are... I guess I just don't get it.

So, $70 on speakers and $275 on a soundcard to drive them, or am I missing something?

On-board Sound VS Creative Audigy 4 PRO
You can't be serious? Hmm, let's see...

$3.50 onboard audio vs. $250+ discrete audio

Oh, and while we're making absurd comparisons, which is more powerful; the motor in a typical +12VDC PC cooling fan...or this?

Does anyone know?

I have those speakers, and my audigy 2 is overkill for them.

Hi guys I'm using on board CMI hi def onboard sound at the moment on my Asus P5AD2 Premium board 3 Ghz P4 Logitech Z-5500 THX how much would I benifit from either the A2 or A4 card for video on my Dell 2405FPW or games like HL2 and Guild wars?

What kind of videocard to you have, and what resolution are you running at?

It's possible that you could be almost totally videocard limited right now (especially if you're running native res on that 2405). If that's the case, getting an A2 or A4 would probably have almost no effect on your video performance.

If you're not videocard limited, I think somewhere in the 10% increase range is typical, although I haven't seen a ton of benchmarks on this sort of thing. I'd love to see more.

Sorry I've got an ATI X850XT at native res but I'm not to worried about video performance I just wondered if I'd notice any improvement in sound.

Oh, "benifit from either the A2 or A4 card for video" made me think you wanted a fps increase.

Yeah, you should notice an improvement in sound quality.

I think a jump from integrated to an Augigy2 standard is going to be a lot larger than a jump from an A2 to a higher A2 though.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money and don't need a firewire port, a standard A2 @ $50 is a good gaming card to get.

Thanks whats the diff between A2 and A2ZS?

From what I understand, you get a different stereo mode for 2 channel sources that's equivalent to 7 channel stereo on receivers vs CMSS on the standard A2 (but music is meant to be listened to in standard stereo anyway, so that's not a big deal), you get a firewire port, and in general the specs are a little better but I can't imagine that making too much of a difference unless you have a very nice sound system.

the a2 will probably be fine for your needs but wait till mid week as creatives new cards the x-fi should have more info announced and supposedly they are a gaint leap over any current consumer cards
