On an engagement ring, would you go for 14K or 18K white gold?

my wife's engagement ring and 2 wedding bands are platinum.

my wedding band is platinum.

to keep it shiny just take it to a jeweller to have it cleaned.

every time we do that they look like new.

Seriously...you wear engagement/wedding rings all day every day. They are going to get scratched, nicked and dinged. There's no avoiding it. Textured surfaces will show less.

Just take it in every so often to polished and cleaned. That goes for any material.

Take a look at matte finished rings. I got my wife a beautiful matte finished ring. It is classical yet modern looking with a beautiful setting in a matte finish. I'd take a picture of it but I'm at work.
