Hello again.

I didn't want to repartition my primary drive, which is formatted with Vista 64 bit Ultimate and using AHCI in the BIOS.

I added a 2nd 500GB Seagate SATA2 that I called Drive Z:. I want to install XP on it so that I can run my old Iomega ZIP 100 IDE drive and recover all my data files on Zip disks to a CD.. as well as rescue my BIG genealogy program file (Generations 2 by Sierra)which is no longer made and which is Vista 64 incompatible.

I tried to run the XP setup but it won't install.

I'm afraid of trying to boot from the CD and installing like that for fear of erasing my Vista installation.

Tried to use the Vista HELP but that was not HELPful for me.

Anyone know how I can install XP on this Z drive. Or is there another way to do this.

Thanks for the patience. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for the link.

Problem is, my Vista 64 install is on an AHCI SATA in BIOS, not an IDE, so when I try to install XP using your tutorial, I get a BSOD.

Would it be easier to just PULL the Vista drive and install the new drive as a BIOS IDE, then install XP, get my files to a CD, convert my genealogy files to a GEDCOM file after installing the program, then re-install my VISTA HD and see if I can reformat my XP HD?

 I am SO Confused.
