The old saying "Works like a charm"

Has anyone ever had a charm that WORKS?

I haven't, so where the hell does this saying came from? :confused:

Maybe it means that you can't prove that it works, it just seems to.

Probably comes from the old days when people still believed in love charms and things of that nature.
