I see a lot of different results and some with different opinions. But for posting results, is their a standard most use?

Is 1024x7668, 32 bit color and low detail what everyone usually uses?...since that is the default when you install.

you should just use the default settings.

thats what 95% of people use so its better to compare with.

I believe so...Although it may be a different detail level. I just use the default, but I don't remember anything being set to 'low.'

I did a fresh install this morning of 2001SE and from my findings it defaults to 1024x768, 32 bit color, compressed textures and low detail. If others have found differently, post it.

You know there's a button that you can click that restores the default settings?

Low detail? WTF?

Huh?

You know there's a button that you can click that restores the default settings?

I am aware of this, though I am not sure you were even talking to me?

The Low/High detail settings are in the bottom left of the config box I believe. Correct me if I am wrong.

Why doesn't anyone use 3DMark03?

For starters, I've heard far too much crap about "cheaters" with that to even start. Secondly, the performance delta between DX8 and DX9 cards makes comparing outside those boundaries pretty pointless. At least 3DMark2001 wasn't as bad with the DX7/DX8 shuffle. And finally, the integrity of 3DMark03 as a benchmark has been called into question many a time.

You are wrong, and you will now be corrected. :)

That's "Game Detail" - for the playable "game" included in 3DMark2001 Pro where you "play" "Game 1". :p

When you are comparing your score with others on the ORB, keep in mind that there are widely used "benchmark only" driver and software tweaks that get people an extra 1500 points or so in 3DMark 2001. I used to wonder why people with the same specs and video card overclock as me has such a higher score until I tried these tweaks.

Well, you can do things with Riva Tuner alone that will add 500-1000 points to your score. The main one is lowering detail level (with lod bias in power user) the right amount for each specific test in 3DMark01.

Comparing 3DMark results from your computer to someone else's is completely and totally useless if you don't use default settings. If all you wanna do is test your's to see if changes you made improved performance, run it with whatever settings you want... but to compare it to someone else's computer, anything other than default settings makes the results invalid.
Using different settings would be like a car manufactur claiming that in their own tests, their car makes 300 HP, and the competition's car makes only 260 HP. But neglecting to mention they tested their car at sea level, where the air is dense and the most power can be made... and the competition's car was tested at the top of Pike's Peak where an engine makes about 1/2 the power it can make at sea level.

That's exactly my point. When you compare in the ORB it is pretty useless because most people are basically cheating.

I guess that was the main reason I was asking because people cheat on their score and I was hoping to get the settings that most use for us non-cheaters :)

i dont think its useless to compate to the orb.

if you change a setting, when you compare, it only compares to the same settings you have.

What I've been talking about is not changing settings in 3DMark. I'm talking about keeping default settings. The things you can change to increase your score are changed outside of 3DMark. They are settings that you would never use for gaming because it makes games look terrible. But it will add over 1000 points to your 3DMark score. So many people who publish their scores in the ORB use these "benchmark only" settings that it is useless to compare your score with the scores there.
