That's the version that got me hooked. I loved that game. Something about it thats just far too much fun. I've sunk more time into that game than I did into Dark Age of Camelot.

the feature list is awfull

Thirty three quests have been created from the offline portion of the PSO story. Visit the Governor-General and receive up to 15 quests, or get to the Laboratory to accept 18 quests that await you there.
thats... nothing

A new character named Momoka is introduced through one of the Governor-General's quests. Also, new morphing technology allows you to customize your character's face, hairstyle, clothing, and body size.
morphing technology is not new

Your character data is held on a server allowing you to play anytime from any PC that has Internet access and PSO Blue Burst installed.
like with all online games

Join a team and chat with other members at any time via "Team Chat". The "Team Point Ranking System" allows you to compete and it converts undesired rare items into team points.
teams is standard, not sure about team points, interesting idea there

Outstanding sense of realism where results of battles are determined by player's ability and the parameters of the player's character. Customize your command palette for simple, straightforward operations.
yes, like all other online games

it just sounds like they are reinventing the wheel but just dont know its already been done

reinventing the wheel? Go look up when PSO was first released on the dreamcast. It's a spectacularly fun game...

Guild Wars is basically a clone of this. Huge Lobby area where you get a team together and go on missions or just go out to play through the game. The game itself is huge and completely replayable. I've sunk more time into PSO than any other game out there... Dreamcast version, had 100 hours into it, Gamecube version another 120 hours.

Oh, as for what type of game it is... Think of it as basicaly a behind the character version of Diablo with lightsabers, guns, and more. Plus every character has a pet "MAG" that you feed and it grows to give you powers and super-attacks based on what you feed it.

It's really one of the best games I've played of it's type.

Or maybe they wanted to create an online version of Phantasy Star to get a certain fan base to sign up that would otherwise not have signed up for many of the other online games out there?

:p

Nah, Saga, this was around a long time ago. The "new" features they're talking about are new to the PSO game itself... not new in general.

PSO v3 was crap, they went from an adventure game to a card game and no one bit... so now it's back to adventure. They kinda screwed the pooch though, releasing it for the gamecube without a keyboard controller or adapter. I was upset about that.

well yeaaah, I have heard a little bit about Phantasy Star, all good
so more of the same should be just what the people want, still a better feature list that might attract people who havent tried the original might be nice

like the pet concept, and that its like diablo :)

Heh, the pet concept has been around since the beginning... I think they grew tired of developing online games for systems that had little to no online following (dreamcast, gamecube) so they just threw it on the PC with some updates. It's certanly cheaper than all the other MMOs out there, although this is similar to Guild Wars in that it's not REALLY an MMO.... but it is... kinda.. sorta. :)

i've been playing this a few hours, went with the mage type character. There is on hell of a learning curve! you can tell this game did not have the use of a mouse in mind. I have 2 attacks that go out in a straight line from where i'm looking, but by the time i position correctly something has hit me 2x and i'm dead... i have to keep using the "always hits what is targetted" spell that doesn't do as much damage

Well..its not the real Phantasy Star sequel I've been waiting for but I guess this will do for awhile. Phantasy Star Universe unfortunately (to me at least) is more like PS Online instead of the classic PS games but does look pretty good. I hope a beta for that shows up before release.

I decided to jump on the beta. I've got a level 29 cyborg hunter with a level 100 mag. Its a fun look into the past but don't see how they expect to get people to pay to play this.

I dunno. Try the offline quests! The first few days were hard, but then the skill curve comes way down until the ruins.
