Stop the presses!
Notify the authorities!
The world is no longer safe!!!! WINDOWS HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR!!!

oops.....

lol, i think the microsoft programmers were bored and wanted to spice up the old "error" message.
or to freak out the computer illiterate.

sorry, but i found this too funny.

I was on the Microsoft Premier site today looking up an event ID that we were having because of a problem connecting a test server to a LUN on our new IBM Shark.....I found a Q Article that was our exact problem and it began "This is a disastrous situation" My boss was standing behind me reading over my shoulder when I pulled the article up and he freaked......read through it and had to do some major registry hacking to correct the problem but it still cracked me up they began the article that way......scared the sh1t out of my boss.... This is what it says when i click on more help on the error message....

In Windows Media Player version 7 or 7.1, when you try to play or to connect to a multicast station, you may receive the following error message:

Catastrophic Error 8000FFFF

Is Reported When Duplicate Packets Are Received

Workaround:
Use WMP 6.4

Thank you microsoft !

Here's a classic that becomes a part of daily life when using WinME:

<unknown> has caused an error in <unknown>.

<unknown> will now close

When I first saw your picture, I thought it was just a photochop, but it appears others have seen it too.

At least WinXP is trying to do you a favour and say it's 'Catastrophic' to use and it's closing it down for you heh.

Well as a software engineer, this demonstrates the quality of documentation (or lack there of) Microsoft has. No wonders all there stuff is buggy.

Why use any other version of WMP?

Cause it's less bloated and more stable?

start -> run "mplayer2". much faster, much more stable. associate AVI and MPEGs with it. I leave wmv to WMP 8 just cause some don't seem to work with 6.4
