I was sure my XP 1600 1.4 @ 1.59 was stable after testing with prime95 and folding@home for over 24 hours. My 5V line never dipped below 4.89 and Vcore fluctuated between 1.82 and 1.84. I let run burnk7 (cpuburn optimized for athlons) and 5V was at 4.87 - lowest ever - Vcore stayed at 1.82 and machine rebooted after running less than 1 minute. Serious overclockers better try this little gem. Now I have to do another 24 hour burn-in session with it :(.

[Edit] It also raises temps so fast it's not even funny... Get it from here.

You are right, it does seem to stress the cpu pretty hard. It raised the cpu temp a degree or two over what Prime does, and the voltage drop is significant, but my system is holding up so far. :)

The CPU temp rasied form 43C to 48C in one minute, thought it wasn't going to stop..

The CPU runs at 43C constant when running Seti, Also the 5V line droped from 4.81 to 4.63 on a Enermax 430W PS.

One serious burn-in program.

holy crap, that was scary. my 5v rail dropped from 4.78 to 4.71, and my temp shot up almost 10F! but it ran solid for almost an hour :)

nice find, stop at 68c for an hour. Thought it was stable at 1632mhz but give me an error and shut down. change to 1600mhz now its fine with no errors. but still hit 68C. I don't think I'll leave the computer running this prog. kinda scary;).

Is this drop normal for a 430W Enermax PS? My 5V rail was still in the high 4.7x and that's with a loaded computer on a 300W Sparkle PS. I was thinking of beefing it up to 400W but now I am confused.

Yeah its a good program, Mikewarrior2 turned me onto it awhile back. When I ran my thermal compound tests, it was part of my test routine. If you use the program "runprio" program and run it at high priority then it will really start to heat your processor.

"Warning use of this program can cause damage to weak components"

It will really let you know what your cooling solution can handle......!

At 1570, my system ran for 3 hours and then rebooted. I'm down to "only" 1555 MHz on my XP 1600 now and highest temp I've seen is 53*C. Is that high enough to cause trouble?

Just ran it and Seti for 4 hours and my PC seems to have passed even O/C by 340MHz. CPU temp went from 41c to 45c which was a bit scary and my 5v dropped from 4.99 to 4.94

Thanks for the link

Damn, that's hot! Started at 54C (the usual after all day running SETI@home), up to 59C in 2.5 mins, 60C in 4.5mins, 61C in 6.5mins... but still, after 13mins, 61C, no sign of any crashing. And my PSU (Enermax 350W) seems happy, all voltages as normal.

Now I really must refit my Alpha PAL8045 (plus Papst quiet, low-CFM fan) with less Arctic Silver II.

btw this system isn't overclocked... just a plain old 1.333 on a K7S5A.

Woohoo! Been running it for about 8 minutes so far, temps jumped from 38C at full load (seti and eccp) to 42C (seti, eccp, and cpuburn), but now temps are down to 41C with all 3 running at once!

btw, this is a Tbird 1.33 @ 1.4 with an Alpha PAL8045 w/ delta 70cfm fan

CPUBurn will heat your CPU like no other program. Some of the top HSF manufacturers use it for their testing.

Hapless - Cut out the Seti and eccp and your temps will go up.

with my duron 650 @ 1050 /w 1.9Vcore and home made watercooling the temperature stays att 44 degrees C after about one hour of running

it's usually at 42degrees when running RC5 so I am quite satisfied with my cooling setup

I'm an overclocking newbie. Can anyone tell me the significance these 5v readings people keep talking about? What is the lowest reading that can still be considered safe?

I've got a T-bird 700@866, 1.85v on an Epox 8KTA3. I ran CPUBURN for 10 minutes, and my core temp went from 41C to 45C. Core voltage didn't change at all. My 3.3v line stayed at 3.42 the whole time; the 5v line dipped from 4.83 to 4.76 and held there. My 12v line went from 12.48 to 12.66.
I did have it set to High Priority, and set it for a K7 processor. I'm just running a generic 300W PSU too.

So virtually no change in anything; perhaps the processor can take a higher overclock then? :D

Just boosted it to 933MHz. Core, 3.3v, and 12v lines showed no change; the 5v went down only a little, to 4.73. Oh, and my processor temp hit 46C - that was with it running for an hour and a half.
