Buy both cards.................... I dont care if you dont have the money. Sell blood... Anything to get you sniveling nitpicking snobby A$$ES out of this frickin forum!!!

How is this a solution again? I missed it. I don't think anyone cares if you don't want them in this forum since they're obviously quite happy to post here.

pfft

It was a sarcastic joke. Note the smiley face that you chose not to include in your quote. Wow. Just proves that people only see what they want to see.

So anyway, the X800pro is not the card to get for this particular game as it were. You can manage it with an XT, but the 6800GT or higher is the way to go. Those who already own a X800pro will need to back down a bit on their settings to have a nice gaming experience, albeit at one resolution lower and less AA/AF. IMHO. Curious to see what a vanilla 6800 could do with it.

I can't tell if you're being facetious or not, due to your following post:

what i wonder is since the 5900 is "fully" programable, why not a nice firmware upgrade to bring the nv3xx into dx9b spec...(which is the whole issue with nv3.xx)they could do it...if they wanted to
Seriously?

OK, if you seriously don't know:

New firmware can't fix NV3x's biggest limitation, which seems to be a lack of temp registers for the pixel shaders. That's a hardware problem, set in stone (OK, transistors). And the 5900 is already PS2.a, which is between PS2.0 and PS3.0 in capabilities.

And there is no "DX9b." Do you mean PS2.b or PS2.a

If the preview is to be believed, Anything newer than a GeForce 3 64MB will be quite capable of playing Doom 3 at reasonable speeds with more than acceptable eye candy. I suppose we'll find out for sure when we all get the game, but there is no reason to believe from what has been said in HardOCP's review that we won't be able to game very well even on the mid range cards from the previous generation. iD's focus all along has been on making the game playable to a LOT of players. If the GeForce 3 point is really accurate, the list of cards that could play this game is quite long, which I think is rather the point.
