I like two "local" wines: "Lacrima lui Ovidiu" (The tear of Ovidius) and "Busuioaca de Bohotin" (something like "Basil of Bohotin"), bottled by Vincon Vrancea)
The first is a 17% white wine, kept in oak barrels, and with a dark blond color. Strong scent, and a bit of sweetness - but is a bit strong
Busuiaca de Bohotin, is a light red whine, crystal clear and sweet as a dream. At just some 10% alcohol, it can be enjoyed much longer, and enjoinment it is

I like any kind of wine as long as it's red. ;)

Zinfandels and Cabernet Sauvignons are my favorites! :wine:

1993 or earlier Tuscany Region red wine. Especially the ones from Montepulciano.

I don't like wine. Never have. Not only do I dislike the taste, it's one of the few things that gives me heart burn

I'm kind of partial to Mad Dog 20/20. It's relatively cheap ~ $2.00 or so a bottle and readily available in any inner-city mom and pop market. Usually, the MD 20/20 is next to the Night Train and the malt liquor selections.

2 buck chuck!
Actully I prefer the micro brewed stuff that I make.... I like semi-dry wines.
Once in a while a good late harvest desert wine (Ice wine) is good, but you have to sip it nice and slow.

I actually collect wine :) Something I got into in college. My friends kept calling me "Frasier" because I was the only one that could pronounce some of these names heheheh. I'm partial to Shiraz, and if you can find a '99 or a '00 Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz for under $40, pick it up for a special occasion!! Probably the best wine I've ever had. For a less dry dessert wine, I'm partial to Riesling. It's a German wine with a pear/apricot flavor and decent brands can be had for $9-$15.

Wine is an acquired taste, and I acquired it faster than I did with beer. What's weird is when you start drinking good wines, they get to be really interesting. If you concentrate, you can actually start to pick out different flavors such a berries, oak, fruits, licorice, mint, orange---it's like peeling the layers from an onion. The wine tasting experts are really amazing, as they can actually tell vintages and some can even tell where the grapes came from in the wine. Neat talent.

Is there something special about that year that you like? Wines over 5 years old are going to cost $$$$$$ (Like over $40 a bottle). 1997 was one of the best years for Italian wines (best since 1990 actually), so you might do better with a '97 than a '93. It'll be less expensive and it should have more flavor.

Not a big fan of those port type wines. They're good with heavy beef/pasta meals, but I always need to wash them down with some water or I get an upset stomach. Must be too much acid in the grapes they use.

Heheh....Magdog is NOT wine :D It's more like fermented fruit juice...but it's fun to make stuff out of it. We made MD Slushes at a party last month.

I have tried to drink wine so many times for the health benefits... I can't get the stuff down my throat for the life of me. Maybe arbor mist but that isn't real wine.

Their Cabernet and Cabernet-Merlot blend is really good for the price. The '01 blend has been rated really well, but I find them all to be really good.
