OMG - Tom Waits Going on Tour!

Orsorum

Lifer
But he's not going anywhere near the West Coast (I live in Seattle...)

I'm considering flying into Atlanta on the afternoon of July 5 for his last tour date and flying back immediately after the concert. Would be a whirlwind couple of days but, man, I've wanted to see him perform live for years.

Anyone else thinking about going?

Got a link for tour dates and venues? I will be on the East Coast for a portion of the Summer.

Hmm, I might be able to make one of those dates. East Coast travel throws me for a loop when I look at a map, all of the states are so tiny.

*sigh* I may have to miss this one. The plane ticket alone would cost me $500 (for the one weekend I could go to one of the cities where he is playing); I'm already going fishing this summer on a trip that will cost me $500 so I think I just have to let this one go. Tom Waits will go on tour again someday...

When I saw the email he's going to be in Tulsa, I got excited.

Then the ticket prices brought me down to reality.

I've heard tix for the Tulsa show are 85.00.

Too rich for my blood.

I met him a while back when I was a bellman at a hotel, I am not really into his music so I really didn't care.

EDIT: Nevermind. Those are ticket sales times and not show times. I guess I haven't been the same since I stopped drinking in the morning!

By the way, how does El Paso rate a night and all of NC is denied? Rats.

Damn! All these times are either in the morning or early afternoon. What, is he sober now? And is he doing up so early?

Dunno if it'll be a show to remember if he's on the wagon now.

I just picked up his Blood Money album today.

That was one of the first Waits albums I bought. Not the best, but definitely gives you that ultra-dark vaudeville sound. To me that's what is most brilliant about his music - nobody else that I know of can touch the transportative nature of his stuff. "Crying in your beer circus music", a friend of mine called it.

Tom Waits for no man!

He gave me a ride home to Hollywood from Venice all four times he came to the Venice Poetry workshop in the mid '70's.

damn it! I'll be out of the country...not that I'd be anywhere where I could see a show. I should let me dad know, he's in Jax.

The damned CD has some tiny little scratches on it, even though it is new and right out of the package. I wouldn't have even noticed them, but I was giving it a thorough inspection after it insisted on skipping during the last track with two different players. 🙁

B&N already had another copy on order, since I bought their only one. Just waiting for it to arrive so I can go trade this one in. :|

I don't think I understand your post. Are you literally saying that Tom Waits transported you from a poetry workship to your home, four times? 😕
