B.S. I've noticed about a 1000% increase in cops radaring people in my area since everyone is hiring more cops because of the terrorist alerts. I don't even speed anymore at all!!!!!!

There's no amicable response to such idiocy other than pointing out said idiocy.

Damn Bush and his army of cops!

You think that just because the ticket was lost for a month that it should be thrown out??? How does that logic work?

That's when you sick your insurance company on theirs. Who cares how fast other people are driving? The posted speed limit is the posted speed limit. If you break it and get a ticket, you're a moron.

If you get yourself into an accident because of you think it's ethically wrong to speed, YOU are the moron.
Haha. What a bunch of bs.

Cosigned....what a load

I'm sure you never ever speed.

That was not the point. Some people choose not to speed. If they get in an accident because of this choice it does not make them a moron.

Okay, am I the only person who if/when I get a ticket will not be a hissy bitch and pay it? You break the law, its your problem. Like i said in other threads like this, I don't deny I speed, but I understand the consequences to it. I also don't speed like a madman unless a) Everyone around me is also speeding (not a defense, just saying if everyone else is doing 10 over the limit, so will I, and if I get singled out, big deal), and b) I am on a road where very little others are so I only endanger myself. Now, if I get caught speeding, or otherwise breaking the law, I am not going to find a technicality unless it exists (cop not using radar gun, writing down wrong license, wrong speed, etc...). If you broke the law, fess up to it, and move on with your life. If it is a point offense, take driving classes, and knock the points off.

Hey, I didn't bitch. I wasn't happy, but I payed my $189 and went on with my life.

I used to speed like a crazy man. I used to drive like a freakin bat outta hell. As Viper GTS. I used to scare the crap out of him driving to the beach or on the back country roads to his house when I was pissed or something.

Now I don't really see any reason to speed. I don't speed anymore, really. I don't make an effort to stay right at six miles faster than the speed limit like I used to. I just... go the speed limit. It's really not that hard when you learn defensive driving, responsibility, and patience. 🙂

Fine, we simply have a different ways of thinking then.

IMHO, if there is any way to avoid potentially killing yourself and/or others, it should be exercised, even if it risks a $100 ticket. If you think death and/or serious injury is okay if it helps you avoid a speeding ticket, we will just have to agree to disagree.

At what point does it become excess though? Say I agree with you and now am travelling 10 over, but another group catches up and is doing 20 over. Does that mean we all should now be doing 20 over?

$149 ticket for 15mph over the speed limit? Is that supposed to be a lot? Seems pretty low to me actually.

And you guy shave 70mph freeways?

I hope that you do go fight it. I am going to laugh when you make the topic "The judge pwned us and yelled at us for wasting the court's time"

If you have the option to take traffic school.. there is NO REASON TO FIGHT THE TICKET.

The officer did nothing wrong - at his dIscretion he can issue a warning - AT HIS DISCRETION he chose not to. Discrimination against radar detector users... LOL ROFL. I love people.. theyre so brilliant.

I live in jacksonville florida and personally i have to say I have NEVER been in a situation where doing the speed limit caused an accident. I have seen people going 20 - 30 under the speed limit and wanted to shoot them in the face but someone going the speed limit would cause an accident? In miami when everyone was going between 80 -100 i managed to do 70 just fine... stay in the right lane.

In almost all testing 10mph is the safest speed as far as % of accidents goes. at 10 mph less or more than the limit there is a *huge* increase of accidents.

speeding tickets are more or less a good revenue maker. Asshats doing 60 in a school zone or triple digits anywhere are the people that screw up the party giving the bean counters statistics.

Å

Thats not a technicality ... a technicality is getting caught doing 90 on a 55 @ 4am in the morning and having the cop write down 9:30am & the wrong road on the ticket. That was a funny one ...

Fact is, she was speeding...

Go to court and plead guilty, most of the time, they either reduce the penalty, throw it out, or just force you to pay.

I've had a 17 over reduced to 7 over + court costs and no penalty on insurance.

I've also had the court say I can go to school and pay court costs, and no penalty on insurance.

nope.. you arent the only one who pays and shuts up... but then i try to get traffic school or court supervision so it doesnt go on my record... however when the thing is in fact NOT against the law (ie: the time i got a ticket for "attempting to sideswipe an unmarked police car") then i'll do something about it... btw in the case of the attempted sideswiping i talked to the states attourney and he laughed when i showed him the ticket.... he just said "in this case, if there's no bent metal there's no broken law"

My sister got a speeding ticket a while back on February 15, 2004. Speeding 85 in 70, state of Florida, fine is $149! The cop actually said he gave it to her because she had a radar detector (it didn't go off) and FURTHERMORE, he actually wrote "Radar Detector!" in the comments where it says "Other Violations or Comments Pertaining to Offense. THIS WAS NOT AN OFFENCE! Radar Detectors are not ILLEGAL in Florida! BUT IT'S NOT OVER YET! When she called to say she was taking the drivers class, the County Clerk lost the ticket and finally found it APril 6th and now they sent her a letter saying pay by May 6.

I want to hear the judges reaction when you try to use the defense of "but everyone was doing it", and "it wasn't legal cause her detector wasn't going off". I've got a detector in my car cause I speed, and each time I get pulled over (avg. 20 over), I just pay the ticket and count it as a lesson learned (and to watch those bushes along the 10 in Phoenix).

Can't this get thrown out of court on so many technicalities? What can I fight it with? Discrimination against those who use radar detectors?

What technicalities? Since you and your friend have gotten out of tickets, I'm sure you've either learned a bit about the law, or at least where to get the info to try to get out of a ticket. What discrimination? Has your sister said that she's been pulled over multiple times for no reason (speeding doesn't count in your case I guess) or for having other people of the same ethnicity in her car?

You're not in the position to be calling people morons just cause they told you to take responsibility for your actions. Maybe the cops are tagging more people with radar because they've got the budget for it and there's been a rash of complaints/accidents along this stretch of road (that's the case along the 101 in Scottsdale here)? Then again, you might be right, and it's time to get out your tinfoil hat - the cops are out to stop you.

Many cops don't NEED radar to know you're speeding. They can look at your car go by and tell within 3-4 mph how fast you are going.

And please. The ticket wasn't for having a radar detector. It was for speeding. She was speeding. She got caught speeding. She got a ticket for speeding.

--ok.. first off "she had a radar detector (it didn't go off)"
the fact that it didnt go off means nothing... she probably had it in her front window just like most people do and he could see it when he approached the vehicle... cops are smart enough now that they know not to keep radar on all the time... radar on = signal being sent out... radar off = no signal for detectors to pick up... cops know this so they are starting to leave their radar's off until people are in range.. then they pick you off when you are none the wiser and pick you up a few miles down the road

--Second "other violations or COMMENTS pertaining to offence"
speeding was the offence... the fact that she had a radar detector was a comment worth noting for the judge to basically said "she had a device that could have told her i was there if i want smart about doing my job"

this isnt a case of race or discrimination or anything like that... she was actually breaking the law... make her fess up to her actions.. if you don't then she'll never learn anything at all and probably try to take the easy way out of everything

You should definitely try to get it thrown out. Looking for a loophole is always better than taking responsiblity for your actions. It's what all deadbeat losers do. Good Luck!

STFU and get off your highhorse. 85 in a 70 is hardly worth the 150 dollar fine and the increase in insurance. What she did was about a .5 on the 1-10 scale of wrongness. Fricken people make me sick, traffic tickets most of the time are complete BS, and the cops should be out doing something productive.
