The exact same thing happened to me last year (except for all the damage etc) when I wrongly parked on a busy road in Bristol (another large city in the UK). When I eventually walked over to where I had parked my car I noticed it wasn?t there and shat my pants. I immediately called the police who advised I should first ring the council to see if it had been towed, so I phoned the council and after discussing the situation with them they confirmed that my car had indeed been towed.

I was about 20 minutes over and had to pay £100 to get it back, plus £10 for a taxi to get me to the depot (or large car park as it were) which was holding my car.

I did notice a few marks on the nearside rear arch, but as it was a company car I wasn?t too bothered.

Yeah. HIABs are pretty much the standard way of doing it.

The problem with standard ground based towing is that you have to get in front or behind the car, so that you can get it on the back of the truck. IT gets even more difficult if you can't open the car to turn the handbrake off, or get the transmission out of park.

If you've got a HIAB, you just pull up along side the car, and lift the whole thing up by the wheels, onto the back of the truck.

The only difference is that normally you have a competent operator, who knows how to balance a car once it's in the air.

It does not look a meter area, looks like an area where you can park for an hour with no return within two hours. Why bloody lift the car anyway? If it is only just over its stay stick a ticket on it. That is what tickets are for!
