OMG teh Doom3!

The bar has been raised for the first time since Half Life...this is the best shooter ever made.

Look here

Looking at the screenshots this game looks simply phenominal. Although the images are grainy, you can tell that the graphic quality is unsurpassed. My only complaint would be that the character faces could use a few more polygons or else some TruForm.

There's even a screen of what appears to be a very large indoor level. I was under the impression that this game would be all very small cramped spaces, but that screenshot proves otherwise. There are also some female characters worth noting...you'll see. 😀

they can't use truform with doom3 as it would bork the way they do shadows. the shadowing, is also why the poly count on the models is kinda low every polygon on the model adds extra work for the shadowing.

Well that, and it would require Carmack to implement an ATi-only feature into his game engine. When's the last time you remember that happening? It sure would piss off nVidia though. 😉

I'm still waiting to see if he'll get around to supporting 3DC. I won't hold my breath.

lol, the last time i remeber it was the last retail id game, rtcw which has truform support. 😉

LOL oops I didn't think ID made RTCW. Case withdrawn then. 😉

How long are the shaders in DoomIII? Does it benefit from more than 96 shader instruction counts?

When I had a 9800 pro, I got a demo of DOOM III and man, it was just incredible.

Even with the 9800 pro, 1 gig pc2700 ram and 2500xp barton, sometimes the fps dropped to single digit. I hope they optimized it before releasing it.

that wasn't a demo, that was an alpha.

and SickBeast, Grey Matter and Nerve made rtcw but they did so under the direction of id. as for doom using shaders longer than 96 instructions, i doubt it.

Yeah.dude..that was a fvcking alpha.

Thanks for the review link, I can't wait for next Wednesday!

Question for anyone: Do you think id has any surprises on the CDs for us? Like any bonus material or easter eggs? Has anyone ever asked id that in an interview?

Heh, "minimum specs" are:

1ghz CPU
32mb 3d videocard w/HW T&L
256mb of RAM

Well, the Alpha *DID* run with my 32mb GF2 GTS-V, but I'm not sure how many people will be willing to play this game with something this slow (or butt ugly).

I've been a member of the SA forums where that crap originated with the Jeff K gimmick in 2000/2001 and it has been run into the ground like nothing I've seen on the internet before, except all your base which also came from there. T_T

TRUE Per pixel lighting, arbitrary light maps, very high detail textures, and incredible levels of optomization allowing very wide support > higher polygon counts.

Get the Nalu Demo if you wanna see one pretty model in an empty world.

Or watch the Unreal Engine 3 demo at 15fps on an im sure GODLY 6800 UE based system 😛
